We would like to clarify that the incident currently circulating on social media did not happen at Samar Provincial Hospital (SPH). It occurred in a private hospital in Catbalogan City.

Samar Provincial Hospital has two operational ambulances available per shift for patient referrals to higher-level hospitals whenever needed. Each ambulance is staffed by a driver and an ambulance nurse, and this service is provided free of charge, including fuel. In this particular instance, both of our ambulances were already transporting patients to Tacloban when assistance was requested.

We also wish to clarify that SPH does not charge patients any ambulance fee for hospital referrals.

We respectfully urge the public to verify information before posting or sharing negative comments, especially when they involve institutions that were not connected to the incident.

Lastly, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time.

The summit featured discussions on responsible antibiotic use, surgical antibiotic prophylaxis, antibiotic time-out best practices, evidence-based treatment guidelines, pediatric infectious disease guidelines, and AMS metrics as ways forward for SPH.

The discussions on Antimicrobial Stewardship emphasized the importance of responsible antibiotic use through accurate data gathering, data analysis, strategic planning, and effective implementation of evidence-based interventions to improve patient outcomes, prevent antimicrobial resistance, and strengthen infection prevention and control practices.
