Here at Danjugan Island, we see the magic of mangroves and beach forests in action every single day! 🏝️✨

🦀 Mangroves are Nurseries: These tangled roots protect the baby fish and crabs that eventually fill the nets of local fishers, keeping food on tables and money in the community.

🌊 Natural Shield: Mangroves and beach forests act as a free “insurance policy,” protecting our shores from big waves and storms.

🚣 Jobs for Locals: From our amazing guides to our boat operators and kitchen staff, protecting this island creates sustainable jobs that don’t harm the planet.

🪶 Home for Wildlife: These protected ecosystems enable wildlife like the tabon bird (Philippine scrub fowl) and fireflies to thrive.

By choosing sustainable tourism, you’re proving that a standing forest is worth way more than a cleared one, and investing in a future where nature and people can live in harmony together! 🤗❤️🌎

We need a cultural shift where taking care of the Earth becomes our second nature 🌍💙

Our upcoming Climate, Culture, and Conservation Storytelling Camp is a 3-day deep dive into the heart of marine protection. Beyond the science, we’re exploring the traditional knowledge and local voices that keep our sanctuaries alive 🪸🐠🌱

We are thrilled to welcome back Gab Mejia and look forward to:
🎙️interactive storytelling workshops
🏝️guided sanctuary tours and conservation sessions
🕸️ networking with environmental advocates

Here’s to more blessings (like successful sea turtle hatchings) in the year ahead! 🧧🎉

The wait is finally over! We recently witnessed a multi-phase hatching at Danjugan Island. Unlike the synchronized “explosions” often seen in documentaries, this nest took its time—with early emergers leading the charge and stragglers following days later.

Why the staggered start?
This is a perfectly natural phenomenon. According to the Sea Turtle Conservancy, hatchlings pipping at different times is common. They often wait just below the surface for a drop in sand temperature to signal a safe, nighttime escape. Factors like egg depth and nest temperature mean some siblings simply need more time to join the “digging team.”

A Win for Conservation
For decades, the Philippine Reef and Rainforest Conservation Foundation, Inc. () has kept Danjugan Island a sanctuary. By protecting these nests, we ensure every turtle—early or late—has a fighting chance.

We aren’t just saving a species; we are securing a wilder, healthier ocean for our own future generations.

Keep swimming, little ones. We’ll be here waiting. 🐢🌊🐚
