Join us in celebrating the SAFER INTERNET DAY (SID) this coming February 11, 2025!

SID is a global event celebrated annually to promote safer and more responsible internet use for everyone, with special focus on protecting children online. Since its launch in 2004, it has spread to over 100 countries, raising awareness about online safety issues. In the Philippines, SID is officially recognized through Proclamation No. 417, declaring every second Tuesday of February as Safer Internet Day for Filipino Children.

This year’s theme, “Digital Bayanihan, Para as Kabataang Ligtas at Protektado Online,” emphasizes the importance of a whole-of-nation approach in creating a safer digital space for children.

Let’s come together to promote online safety by encouraging responsible internet use and addressing the challenges and opportunities of the digital world for Filipino children. At the heart of this celebration are the voices of the youth, who play a crucial role in creating a safer, more secure digital environment for all. Their call to action aims to inspire bayanihan among government actors, civil society organizations, and the private sector.

PRESS RELEASE | DOJ successfully prosecutes mother for online child sexual exploitation

The Department of Justice (DOJ) secured the court conviction of a mother who sold online the private photos/videos and live lewd performances of her own daughter.

In a 21-page decision by the Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 86 dated 04 February 2025, the accused mother BBB was sentenced to suffer the penalty of life imprisonment and to pay a fine amounting to Two Million Pesos (P2,000,000.00) for violating Section 4(a) of Republic Act No. 11930, otherwise known as the Anti-Online Sexual Abuse or Exploitation of Children (OSAEC) and Anti-Child Sexual Abuse or Exploitation Materials (CSAEM) Act.

The case stemmed from a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) report about alleged Filipino facilitators of OSAEC which was urgently acted upon by members of the Philippine National Police Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management – Women and Children Protection Center Luzon Field Unit (PNP-DIDM-WCOC-LFU).

Authorities managed to communicate with the accused mother through online messaging app Whatsapp where they were offered explicit content of her own daughter in exchange for money.

After thorough surveillance and investigation, operatives launched an entrapment operation against the accused where her daughter was caught in the act performing sexual acts online while chatting with an undercover agent.

This led to the arrest of BBB and his husband CCC who is the alleged owner of a Gcash account where the undercover paid as he tried to escape during the entrapment operation.

However, co-accused CCC was acquitted due to insufficiency of evidence.

Meanwhile, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin “Boying” C. Remulla hailed the tenacious efforts of the prosecution team behind this court victory, namely, Assistant State Prosecutor Gino Angelo P. Yanga, Prosecution Attorneys Criselda B. Teoxon-Yanga, Eugene Q. Yusi, and Angelica H. Sy, whose diligence and dedication were instrumental in securing this conviction.

"By nature, every parent is expected to shield their child against harm, abuse or any form of exploitation and a parent who does otherwise will face the full extent of justice," Secretary Remulla stressed.
