SUSTAINABLE FARMING IN ACTION: CAD VISITS ORNAMENTAL GROWER IN BARANGAY PAMUTAN
The technicians of the Cebu City Agriculture Department (CAD) recently visited one of the ornamental growers in Barangay Pamutan, Cebu City, Mr. Marcelo Econas, to assess the current condition of his ornamental plants and provide appropriate technical assistance.
Mr. Econas is also one of the recipients of tilapia fingerlings from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), which were distributed through the CAD. He is practicing an integrated farming approach, where the tilapia are raised in a pond lined with a pond liner provided by CAD. The nutrient-rich pond water is then utilized for watering his ornamental plants, allowing him to maximize available resources while supporting sustainable farm production.
At present, the pond still has sufficient water that can be utilized for the plants. This simple yet practical farming practice demonstrates how integrating aquaculture and crop production can help farmers make efficient use of water and other available resources.
