627 APPREHENDED IN CEBU PROVINCE AS SAFER CITIES INITIATIVE CONTINUES TO ENFORCE DISCIPLINE, PUBLIC ORDER
The Cebu Police Provincial Office sustained its intensified implementation of the Safer Cities Initiative, resulting in the apprehension of 627 individuals for various violations of local ordinances during anti-criminality operations conducted on May 29, 2026.
A total of 223 operations were carried out across the province, leading to the enforcement of ordinances against drinking in public places (103), smoking in public places (32), roaming the streets without shirts (31), curfew violations involving minors (65), videoke or karaoke violations beyond allowable hours (18), city and municipal traffic ordinance violations (374), and other local ordinance violations (4).
Of the total apprehended individuals, 374 were fined, while 253 were warned and released in accordance with existing local regulations. The operations generated ₱180,300.00 in fines and penalties.
The sustained enforcement campaign is being undertaken in support of the directive of Secretary of the Interior and Local Government Juanito Victor “Jonvic” Catibayan Remulla, who has consistently emphasized the importance of discipline, order, and community participation in maintaining safer communities. Through the strict implementation of local ordinances, authorities aim to prevent minor offenses from escalating into more serious crimes while fostering a culture of accountability among residents.
PCOL ABUBAKAR UDANG MANGELEN JR., Provincial Director of CPPO, underscored the significance of consistent ordinance enforcement as a crime prevention strategy.
“The Safer Cities Initiative is not merely about apprehending violators; it is about instilling discipline and promoting responsible behavior within our communities. By addressing disorderly conduct and enforcing local ordinances consistently, we create an environment that discourages criminal activity and enhances public safety. The positive impact of these efforts is reflected in the continued decline in the commission of crimes across the province,” Mangelen said.
Meanwhile, PBGEN ARNOLD EVANGELISTA ABAD, Regional Director of Police Regional Office 7, commended the dedication of Cebu police units in carrying out the initiative. “The accomplishments of CPPO demonstrate that proactive policing and strong community engagement are effective tools in preserving peace and order. I commend all police personnel and our local government partners for their unwavering commitment to implementing the Safer Cities Initiative and ensuring safer communities for every Cebuano,” Abad stated.
For her part, Governor Pamela S. Baricuatro expressed full support for the continuing campaign, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between law enforcement agencies and local government units.
“Peace and order are essential foundations of progress. The Provincial Government of Cebu remains steadfast in supporting initiatives that promote discipline, public safety, and responsible citizenship. Through our collective efforts, we can sustain a secure environment where communities can thrive and prosper,” Governor Baricuatro said.
The Cebu Police Provincial Office assured the public that the implementation of the Safer Cities Initiative, along with OPLAN Bulabog, OPLAN Sita, and Night Watch operations, will continue across the province as part of its commitment to maintaining peace, order, and safer communities for all.
