My heart is heavy over the tragic vehicular accident in Barangay Candugay that claimed the life of 10-year-old John Andrew Anteniro Canete and injured 8-year-old Grae Harrison Nunez Alquizalas.

This was a heartbreaking accident, and our thoughts and prayers are with both families during this very difficult time. The driver of the municipal vehicle was on official duty, tasked to deliver a letter to a barangay, and was on his way back to the Municipal Hall when the incident happened. Nevertheless, we will allow the proper authorities to conduct their investigation and determine the circumstances surrounding the accident.

I have personally visited John Andrewโ€™s family and extended assistance, and I immediately facilitated the transfer and confinement of Grae to a private hospital in Cebu City to ensure that he receives the medical care he needs. I have also reminded all our municipal drivers to exercise the highest level of caution and responsibility while on the road. Bisan pa og official duty, kinahanglan pirming mag-amping ug unahon ang kaluwasan sa atong mga katawhan.
