📢 CALL FOR DONATIONS FOR FIRE VICTIMS‼️

A fire broke out in Brgy. Ermita near Carbon Public Market on April 4, rapidly escalating to a third alarm within minutes.

As of 10:52 PM today, updated initial reports from Sitio Ermita Proper indicate that 39 houses were affected, with 36 totally damaged and 3 partially damaged, displacing 98 families or 349 individuals, including renters, sharers, and lodgers.

The affected area is a densely populated community where many residents rely on livelihoods tied to Carbon Market. Overcrowded housing and limited resources make fires especially devastating in the area. With the Holy Week reaching its conclusion, many families will be left homeless by the time regular working hours and classes begin.

This incident follows reported fire attempts last March 23 in nearby areas, shortly after protests against the ongoing privatization of Carbon Market.

Alibyo Cebu Ayuda Network, together with its allied organizations, calls on everyone for solidarity and immediate support for affected families, and for and an impartial investigation into these incidents to ensure accountability and protect the community.

EMBODY THE MILITANT TRADITION OF THE FILIPINA WOMAN: OVERTHROW IMPERIALISM, FEUDALISM, AND BUREAUCRAT CAPITALISM!

ANAKBAYAN USC stands in firm solidarity with the women of the working class and the peasantry. We recognize that genuine women’s liberation is not a mere struggle for policy reform or cultural recognition, but a radical necessity that requires the total overthrow of the capitalist system. There can be no true emancipation for women as long as their labor, bodies, and resources are treated as commodities for the profit of a few. As the chronic crisis of the imperialist and feudal system worsens, the Filipino woman is bound to rise in greater numbers to challenge the structures that have long held her in chains.

In Cebu, we see the violent imposition of "redevelopment" in the Carbon Public Market, through a Joint Venture Agreement (JVA) designed to privatize public space. This scheme displaces women vendors who have spent decades sustaining their families, trading their livelihood for the interests of big-business monopolies. This urban displacement mirrors the deep-seated oppression experienced by women in the countryside. In peasant communities like Aloguinsan, women continue to suffer under the weight of feudalism, where land-grabbing and militarization ensure that those who till the soil never own the fruit of their labor. Whether through the imposition of VAT on basic services or the denial of land reform, the state consistently prioritizes the interests of bureaucrat capitalists over the survival of the masses.

It is from these very conditions of exploitation: the displacement of the vendor and the landlessness of the peasant, that the militant woman is born. We offer our highest revolutionary salute to the women across the globe who tirelessly resist the triad of imperialism, feudalism, and bureaucrat capitalism! We honor the brave Filipinas who have traded the comforts of home for the rigors of the armed struggle and the perils of the urban underground to achieve national liberation. The revolutionary spirit of Myrna Sularte, Co**ha Araneta, Hannah Cesista, and countless others who remain at the frontlines continues to fuel the resistance.

Furthermore, we stand in firm defiance alongside the people of Iran and Palestine against the genocidal and expansionist maneuvers of the US-Israel alliance. We condemn the Marcos administration for its subservience to these imperialist interests, acting as a puppet state that provides a platform for foreign aggression while ignoring the plight of the Filipino people. The Marcos regime directly endangers millions of our fellow citizens, including overseas Filipino workers caught in the crossfire of West Asia, by allowing the Philippines to be used as a strategic base for US war-mongering. Today’s intensifying conditions of poverty call on the national democratic movement and the women’s mass movement to consolidate their ranks. We must draw more women into the struggle, developing not only the bulk of the membership but also the next generation of commanders and leaders.

The revolution cannot triumph without the emancipation of women. We call on the youth and the masses to embody the "New Woman" envisioned by Lorena Barros—a woman whose identity is forged in the fire of the national democratic struggle. The liberation of women is inseparable from the liberation of the nation.

The struggle of women cannot be contained within the symbolic bounds of Women’s Month. The oppression endured by Filipino women is not confined to a single date or celebration, rather it is embedded in the daily violence of a system that thrives on exploitation and inequality. As long as imperialism, feudalism, and bureaucrat capitalism persist, the lives and labor of women will remain targets of plunder and control. Thus, women’s struggle must be equally enduring—unceasing, militant, and rooted among the masses.

Each day that women workers are underpaid, each day that peasant women remain dispossessed of land, each day that mothers, daughters, and sisters bear the burden of a crisis-ridden society, the call to resist grows louder. The militant legacy of Filipino women reminds us that liberation is not merely commemorated, but forged through collective struggle.

Beyond March and beyond mere recognition, the task before us is to deepen the movement, to organize among the oppressed, and to carry forward the fight until genuine national and women’s liberation is finally won.

Together with all the women and toiling masses, the women’s movement must stand as a pillar of the united front against US imperialism, the number one enemy of women in our country and across the world.

LONG LIVE THE FILIPINO PEOPLE’S STRUGGLE AGAINST IMPERIALISM, FEUDALISM, AND BUREUCRAT CAPITALISM!
LONG LIVE THE STRUGGLE FOR WOMEN’S LIBERATION!
OPPRESSED WOMEN OF THE WORLD, UNITE!

BABAE, ANG LUGAR MO AY SA PAKIKIBAKA!
ABANTE, BABAE! PALABAN, MILITANTE!

𝐀𝐍𝐀𝐊𝐁𝐀𝐘𝐀𝐍 𝐔𝐒𝐂 calls on all youth ready to carry the fire and shape the struggle!

STRIKE 2 🛞 CEBU TRANSPORT GROUPS SOLIDARITY INTENSIFIES AMID OIL PRIKE SHOCKS

Drivers and operators among different transport types, mainly PUVs/PUJs and ride-hailing services, are joined by the youth and progressive groups as the oil crisis worsens in terms of the bureaucrat capitalist government’s inaction to the needs of the transport sector.

The strike intensifies in retaliation to the Marcos-Duterte regime’s continued lack of consideration for the demands to junk the Oil Deregulation Law, VAT, and oil excise tax which only hurts both driver and operator livelihoods while the price of necessities become less affordable. They reaffirm their calls that the government listens to the 6-point demands instead of leaning to band-aid solutions such as 4-day work week, unsustainable subsidies, and an Imperialist transfer from US to China.

Anakbayan Cebu urges the youth to echo the trasport sector’s 6-point demands and to join the nationwide strike in solidarity amid the shocks and urge a genuine change.

6-point demands:
1. Remove VAT and Excise Tax on all oil products.
2. Rollback the price of fuel to ₱55.00
3. Junk oil Deregulation Law and impose controls on the price of oil
4. Enact fare hike on all modes of transportation together with the implementation of the ₱1,200 family living wage.
5. Nationalize the oil industry. Urgently, the government must purchase oil and sell this at a lower cost.
6. End the US’ war of aggression.

NGANO MAN? | STRIKES GAIN STRONGER MOMENTUM AMID WORSENING OIL PRICE SHOCKS

Surging oil prices are choking the masses as oil price shocks intensify due to our lack of national industries and existing policies such as the Oil Deregulation Law, 12% Value Added Tax, and oil excise taxes. This week, oil products surged to more than 120 pesos per liter, cascading catastrophic socio-economic consequences that mainly paralyzed the masses.

The bureaucratic capitalist nature of our government continues to fail the people it serves, as the excise tax is only suspended for at least three months and their attempt to solve the crisis is by raising more funds through unstable, unsustainable, and easily corruptible subsidies. All while private corporations and oligarchies continue to falsify shortages and profit from the crisis, and prices for basic needs break thresholds among the poor, even among middle-class families.

With US imperialism and Israel’s sustained conquest of West Asia, their semi-colonies, including the Philippines, face the harshest blows. The transportation sectors face the brunt of the price shock. From public transportation, logistics, and delivery services, their net incomes dwindle — insufficient to feed their families, let alone themselves, as they skip meals. Drivers grew discouraged from continuing as extreme effort is compensated with demeaning pay. The situation disrupts the youth sector as well, manifesting in longer commuting queues, increasingly expensive essential needs, and the worsening Tuition and Other Fees Increases. In addition, our agriculture and fisheries sectors are also impacted by the rising cost of oil prices and urea fertilizers.

To make matters worse, there is less than 45 days' worth of oil supply left in our reserves. And due to our lack of national industries, we remain import-dependent and at the mercy of private oligarchies, such as Petron, Shell, and Caltex. Plans on strengthening our diplomatic relations with the US-Israel hegemony also manifest through building Israeli-backed smart cities, more EDCA bases, and making the Philippines an ammunition production site for the US.

To echo the call on the worsening global crises, Anakbayan Cebu urges the youth to join the nationwide strike spearheaded by PISTON and adhere to their 6-point demands.

Organize in our longstanding militant struggle against the fascist and bureaucrat capitalist Marcos-Duterte regime, and break from the Imperialist US’ semi-colonial and semi-feudal control.

THE STRIKES WILL ONLY GET LOUDER, STRONGER, AND UNDENIABLE. STRUGGLE WITH THE TRANSPORT SECTOR!

KADAUGAN ANG WELGA SA SUGBO | Transport Strike Proves Its Strength Amid CCTO Disinformation

Governmental forces try to deceive the masses with false information about the strike’s “non-disruption” — a blatant attempt to downplay the justified anger of drivers and transport workers. Of course, those insulated by private vehicles claim that nothing happened, which is a blatant lie.

Anakbayan Cebu strongly contest the claim of the Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) and Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival that the transport strike caused no “major disruption.” This claim is a clear attempt to discredit the strength of the militant mass action led by PISTON-Cebu and the jeepney drivers who joined the nationwide strike.

Reports from PISTON-Cebu show that key transport routes experienced partial paralysis:

📍Talamban–Carbon (75%)
📍Pit-os–Colon (75%)
📍Apas–Carbon Market (17B/C/D, traditional) (85%)
📍Mabolo–Ayala (85%)
📍Lahug–Ayala (85%)
📍Manalili–Cathedral (85%)
📍Ayala–Mandaue (85%)
📍Ayala–Consolacion (85%)
📍Tamiya–MEPZ 1 (90%)
📍Marigondon–Cordova (60%)

These figures attest to the power of collective, militant action. To deny the strike’s effectiveness is to dismiss the real power jeepney drivers hold in the transportation sector. The strike was a show of force amid worsening economic conditions.

But beyond the numbers lies a deeper crisis. Transport workers who once earned around ₱1,200 a day are now forced to survive on as little as ₱200–₱300. Many can no longer feed their families or afford rising fuel costs. Some are even forced to stop working altogether outside of strike actions due to unbearable expenses.

Such is the reality masked by disinformation. The same authorities who deny the strike’s impact also refuse to grant even a meager ₱1 fare increase, let alone address the systemic issues plaguing the sector.

As oil prices continue to rise, so too do the costs of basic commodities. Consumers and commuters alike are made to bear the burden, while transport workers sink deeper into crisis. This is why the call to junk the Oil Deregulation Law, along with the 12% Value Added Tax and Excise Tax, grows ever more urgent.

The struggle of jeepney drivers is inseparable from the struggle of the youth and students. Both suffer from government neglect, as basic social services—from fuel to education—are sacrificed for profit.

To claim there was no disruption is to ignore the harsh conditions drivers face. It is to deny their collective power and their just demands.

Anakbayan Cebu enjoins the youth to go beyond the four walls of their classrooms and learn from the concrete conditions of the drivers and workers. We call on the youth and students of Cebu to stand with jeepney drivers in demanding immediate oil price rollback, genuine support for transport workers, and the development of a national oil industry.

Chants thundered through the streets as jeepney drivers took a stand against the worsening oil crisis and the system behind it.

With daily fuel expenses reaching up to ₱3,600, many drivers are left with little to no take-home incom, forcing them to operate at a loss just to survive. As diesel prices rise, the burden does not stop with drivers. Fare hikes follow, and soon after, the prices of basic goods, electricity, and services increase, which places the weight of the crisis on commuters, students, workers, and the broader Filipino masses.

The struggle of the transport sector is inseparable from that of the youth and commuters who face the same rising costs in their daily lives.

OF WOES AND A RAGING ENGINE

A morning so cold
In a routine bound to be old.
A tired body starts to wurr;
Caged in the engine’s disgruntled murmur.

Another day met with frigid air,
Longing for a price that’s fair.
Yet due to current affairs,
Money burns as the engine flares.

30 years, 60 years,
The loud churning of the gears.
Constant shouting and calculating,
All for a pay so demeaning.

While the government feasts on caviar,
Drivers’ tongues are met with bitter char.
They too, long for a better life,
Able to feed their children and wife.

Many miles, many months—
Three hundred was what they could amount.
As they retire away from ringing beeps,
They sleep with worry and silent weeps.

Yet in camaraderie comes solidarity,
Against a fascist regime’s tragicomedy,
Drivers and commuters of a militant struggle!
Let the nation hear the raging engines’ bugle!
