Saint Anthony Mother and Child Hospital (SAMCH) is a Specialty Hospital created under RA 7830. It started as an extension of Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center. SAMCH is located five (5) kilometers away from the Provincial Capitol and about four (4) kilometers from Cebu City Hall. The hospital complex is settled on a 3, 681 sq. meter lot situated at the corner of Rizal Avenue Extension and Cabr
eros St., Basak, San Nicolas, Cebu City. On March 26, 1991, the Hospital started to operate catering to out-patients only. On May 6, 1992, it started admitting patients. Personnel from VSMMC (Main) were assigned on rotation basis to provide the needs of the admitting patients. On January 1, 1993, 31 personnel were assigned permanently, except for the Medical Technologist who reported twice a week. In the middle part of 1993, some were withdrawn leaving only 18 personnel to man the hospital. On February 1994, hospital admissions were stopped due to lack of personnel and scarcity of supplies. It then reverted to catering to out-patients only. On May 16, 1994, HB No. 10910, Congressman Antonio V. Cuenco sponsored the calling for the separation of Basak, San Nicolas Extension from the VSMMC Main, making it into a Specialty Hospital. As embodied in the Republic Act (RA) 7830 on December 8, 1994, which was signed into law by His Excellency President Fidel V. Ramos, the hospital became what is known as Saint Anthony Mother and Child Hospital. On February 1995, SAMCH started operating independently from VSMMC as a Specialty Hospital under the Department of Health supplying the public needs of OB-GYNE and PEDIATRIC cases only. Permanent officer were hired under DIRFO-7 to operate the hospital.
