"We're in the business of power, so it matters to us how the nextgeneration learns about it. The curriculum guides teachers in the updated standards of what needs to be taught. This is how we give the students a good head start – with the skills that are relevant to the profession," pasabot ni Garcia.

“They’re graduating with hands-on, marketable skills in electrical and solar work,”sigon ni Saniel.

Dugang ni Saniel, ang vocational education nahimo karong mas bililhon samtang nagsaka ang panginahanglan sa koryente.

“Looking ahead, vocational education like this is only going to become more valuable as the country’s energy needs grow. And even for students who don’t end up working as electricians, they leave with practical skills they can carry into whatever they choose to pursue,”sigon ni Saniel.

“This is what it means to live up to our value of honor — nurturing our relationships and sharing our excellencewith the communities we serve,”pasabot ni Garcia. # # #

From Cebu to the National Stage: How Global Pacific Made Its Mark at WOFEX 2026

For four days, from July 29 to August 1, 2026, WOFEX once again transformed the SMX Convention Center into the country's largest gathering of chefs, restaurateurs, bakers, hotel operators and food service professionals.

Among the hundreds of exhibitors this year was Global Pacific, a company whose journey is one that many Cebuanos can take pride in.

Founded in 2009 by a group of friends from Cebu, Global Pacific began with a single butter brand. Over the years, it has grown into one of the country's trusted food service partners, serving restaurants, hotels, cafés and bakeries nationwide while representing some of the world's most respected food service brands.

Backed by a nationwide distribution network and a centralized ordering system, Global Pacific enables operators to source multiple brands through a single point of contact, providing convenience, consistency and dependable service across the country.

At WOFEX 2026, the company showcased an extensive portfolio of internationally recognized brands, including Arla Pro, a leader in professional dairy solutions; Kraft Heinz, globally renowned for its sauces and condiments; Master Martini of Italy, known for premium baking ingredients; Prochiz, one of Indonesia's leading cheese brands; Beryl's, the iconic Malaysian chocolatier; Banquet d'Or from Belgium, famous for its premium frozen pastries; TEYS, Australia's premium beef producer; Speculoos by La Ricetta; and Global Pacific's very own brands, Bravo and Sunny Farms, developed specifically for the Philippine food service industry.

That commitment to partnership has enabled Global Pacific to build long-standing relationships with many of its international principals.

Errol Rivera, Country Manager, Philippines, Martini Professional, shared:

"Martini Professional and Global Pacific have built a strong partnership over the years based on transparency and collaboration. Our shared openness to new ideas and commitment to serving customers have made the relationship both effective and productive.”

The same philosophy has also shaped the company's own brands.

For Louren Chua-Sy, Marketing Manager for Bravo and Sunny Farms, innovation begins by listening.

"One of the things I appreciate most about Global Pacific is how quickly we can respond to the needs of our customers. Because we're constantly listening to operators and staying close to the market, we're able to turn ideas into practical solutions much faster. That's what excites me about our own brands— We create solutions that help our customers succeed."

Beyond supplying ingredients, Global Pacific has also made technical education a cornerstone of its commitment to the industry. Throughout WOFEX, the company hosted relevant cooking demonstrations led by some of the country's most respected chefs, equipping restaurant owners, bakers and food entrepreneurs with practical ideas they could immediately apply in their own businesses.

One of the highlights was Chef Bruce Lim's steak cooking demo featuring TEYS, where he demonstrated how the same preparation techniques could be used for both premium ribeye and the more economical oyster blade. The session reinforced an important message for today's restaurant operators: with the right ingredients and proper technique, businesses can create menus that deliver both value and quality.

Chef Bruce explained:

"The quality of the beef and where it's sourced will always influence the final result. With quality meat and the right technique, operators can confidently build menus that offer both premium and value options without compromising the dining experience."

Global Pacific's customer-focused approach has also strengthened its relationships with international brands looking to expand their presence in the Philippine market.

According to Andrew Wisnu Sadeli, Marketing at Prochiz:

"Working with Global Pacific has been a great experience because of their professionalism, responsiveness and deep understanding of the Philippine food service industry. Through the partnership, we've gained valuable insights into the local market while working closely with customers to develop products and recipe solutions that truly address their needs."

As WOFEX 2026 came to a close, one message resonated throughout the four-day exhibition: while today's food service industry continues to face rising costs and changing consumer expectations, there are still opportunities for businesses that continue to innovate, adapt and put their customers first.

Chef Buddy Trinidad, President of the Pastry Alliance of the Philippines, offered one final piece of advice to restaurant owners, bakers and food entrepreneurs navigating today's business environment:

"Yes, be mindful of your pricing. Be mindful of your portions. Be smart with your ingredients. Those are all important. But at the end of the day, people come back because of the memories you create

Transforming Spaces into Destinations: How SM Drives Cebu Forward

As Cebu continues to emerge as one of the country's strongest engines of economic growth, SM is reinforcing the province's momentum by creating integrated destinations that go beyond retail. Through developments that seamlessly connect shopping, lifestyle, entertainment, tourism, hospitality, and education, SM is delivering a maxed-out experience where people can shop, dine, learn, stay, and be entertained in one destination. More than creating places to visit, these integrated developments generate investments, create jobs, support local businesses, and enhance the overall quality of life, demonstrating how thoughtfully planned spaces can become powerful catalysts for regional progress.

At the core of this transformation are SM's most-loved malls, each strategically located to serve thriving communities and economic centers. SM City Cebu remains a cornerstone of the city's commercial landscape, further strengthened by the presence of National University Cebu, where education, retail, and community life converge in one vibrant destination. In Mandaue City, SM J Mall stands at the heart of the city's flourishing business district along A.S. Fortuna Street, placing it within one of Metro Cebu's fastest-growing commercial corridors. Its strategic location makes it a convenient lifestyle destination for professionals, residents, entrepreneurs, and visitors, complemented by its distinctive dining concepts, modern retail offerings, and inviting public spaces. Meanwhile, SM Seaside City Cebu continues to elevate the waterfront destination experience by offering a dynamic mix of premier shopping, diverse dining, world-class attractions such as Cebu Ocean Park, Cebu Fun Park, and Thirsty Pickle, expansive open spaces, the Chapel of San Pedro Calungsod, and more exciting developments in the pipeline. More than a mall, it is a thriving lifestyle destination where recreation, relaxation, entertainment, and everyday moments come together in one setting.

SM is likewise positioning Cebu as a premier destination for entertainment, tourism, and business events through its expanding integrated developments. The SM Seaside Cebu Arena is ushering in a new era for the region by attracting world-class concerts, sporting events, and international productions, reinforcing Cebu's status as a leading events destination in the Visayas. Complementing this is the upcoming SMX Convention Center at the South Road Properties which will further strengthen the province's Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) industry, while the dual-branded Park Inn by Radisson and Radisson Hotel Cebu will provide quality accommodations for business and leisure travelers. Together, these interconnected developments create a seamless destination where visitors can stay, meet, shop, dine, and enjoy world-class entertainment, all within one thriving district.

SM's integrated developments reflect a long-term commitment to helping Cebu realize its full potential. By bringing together retail, lifestyle, entertainment, tourism, and education within a connected ecosystem, SM continues to strengthen the province's competitive advantage while supporting inclusive and sustainable growth. More than transforming spaces, SM is creating destinations where opportunities flourish, communities thrive, and every visit becomes a maxed-out experience. Through this multi-sector destination advantage, SM continues to drive Cebu forward—building not only destinations of today, but thriving communities for generations to come.

CHIZ SEEKS TO INSTITUTIONALIZE BAN ON GAMBLING ADS, SPONSORSHIPS TO CURB ADDICTION

Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero has proposed a nationwide ban on gambling-related advertisements and sponsorships to curb excessive and irresponsible gambling behavior while protecting minors and other vulnerable groups.

Escudero said the measure mirrors the country’s earlier approach to the to***co industry under Republic Act 9211, or the To***co Regulation Act of 2003, which imposed sweeping restrictions on advertising to safeguard public health.

“It’s about time that we regulate the gambling industry the same way we regulated to***co two decades ago,” he said upon filing of Senate Bill No. 2347, noting that both sectors pose significant risks when promotions become pervasive and youth targeted.

RA 9211, which Escudero supported during his tenure in the House of Representatives, prohibited to***co advertising across print, broadcast, electronic, and outdoor media and barred the use of celebrity endorsements and branded placements in entertainment content, which proved to be effective in reducing undue exposure among minors and non-adult smokers.

Escudero’s SB 2347 seeks to apply a similar standard to gambling promotions by banning advertisements on television, radio, print, online, and social media platforms, including celebrity endorsements and influencer campaigns. The bill also calls for responsible gambling advisories in authorized consumer communications to remind the public of the risks of compulsive gaming.

The senator also cited the recent initiative of the Ad Standards Council (ASC), which voluntarily issued a self-regulation circular requiring its members to ban gambling imagery and paraphernalia across all media platforms.

“My bill shall institutionalize this effort by placing the restrictions under a national legal framework, ensuring uniform enforcement and preventing gaps in regulation,” he stressed.

While the gambling industry contributes significantly to government revenues, employment, and tourism, “it has likewise fueled advertisements, promotions, sponsorships, marketing, and other analogous consumer communications that are becoming increasingly pervasive, sophisticated, and targeted,” Escudero said.

The veteran legislator warned that the growing visibility of gambling‑related services “presents significant public mental and physical well‑being and socioeconomic concerns, particularly with respect to undue exposure, excessive, compulsive, and irresponsible gambling behavior.”

In the bill’s explanatory note, the senator cited the rapid expansion of online and digital gaming platforms, with the Philippine gambling industry recording some P396.13 billion in gross gaming revenues for Fiscal Year 2025, as evidence of its record‑breaking growth.

He said the measure aims to balance economic gains with social responsibility, while holding gambling operators and advertisers to higher ethical standards.

To ensure orderly implementation, SB 2347 provides a one-year transition period upon the law’s passage for gambling operators and advertisers to phase out existing materials and align their operations with forthcoming regulations, an approach will allow agencies and stakeholders to adjust compliance mechanisms before full enforcement takes effect, minimizing disruption while strengthening oversight, Escudero said.

Violations of the advertising ban will carry escalating penalties: a fine of up to P200,000 or imprisonment of up to one year for the first offense; P300,000 or up to two years for the second; and P500,000 or up to three years for the third, along with revocation of business permits or licenses.

Meanwhile, corporate officers and foreign nationals found liable will face corresponding sanctions, including deportation.

The Bicolano senator said the imposition of penalties is “only to ensure its effective implementation,” underscoring that deterrence is essential to protect public welfare and uphold the integrity of the law.

The bill also mandates an education and awareness campaign to promote responsible gambling and inform the public about available mental‑health support and consumer protection programs. Government agencies will be tasked to develop sustained information drives that highlight the risks of compulsive gaming and encourage informed decision‑making among players.

Escudero said the measure ultimately seeks to “foster a more responsible gaming environment, protect minors and vulnerable persons, promote informed consumer choice, and advance public interest.”

Champions in the Pool, Champions in Life: Childlink Homeschool Program Celebrates Student-Athletes’ Success

Every medal tells a story.

Behind every victory are countless hours of training, early morning practices, sacrifices, discipline, perseverance, and the unwavering determination to become better every single day. These qualities define true champions—not only in sports, but also in life.

Childlink Learning Center proudly congratulates our student-athletes who recently brought honor to themselves, their families, and their team during the Philippine Aquatics Incorporated (PAI) Short Course Leg 1 held on July 25–26, 2026.

Our heartfelt congratulations to:
🏅 Adrianna Erika Ching – 5 Gold Medals
🏅 Rhianna Genia Daylle Galo – 1 Gold Medal
🏅 Caitlin Raye Vidal – 1 Silver Medal
🏅 Louis Simon Nicholas Ramos – 3 Gold Medals, 4 Silver Medals, and 1 Bronze Medal

These outstanding athletes are members of the Hydro Immersion Swimming Team, under the dedicated guidance of Coaches Ryan Galo and Danica Camille Galo, whose commitment to excellence continues to inspire young swimmers to reach their fullest potential.

While these students dedicate themselves to becoming champions in the pool, Childlink is equally committed to helping them become champions in life.

Through the Childlink Homeschool Program for Elementary and High School, we recognize that student-athletes require an educational environment that understands the unique demands of competitive sports. Their training schedules, competitions, and travel commitments often require flexibility without compromising the quality of their education.

Our Homeschool Program is designed to provide exactly that.

Childlink supports student-athletes by ensuring they receive a quality education that develops not only academic competence but also character, responsibility, leadership, and life skills. The same discipline, perseverance, resilience, and commitment that they cultivate in sports become powerful foundations for success in the classroom and beyond.

At Childlink, we believe that athletic success and academic excellence are not competing goals—they are complementary journeys.

Whether a student ultimately pursues a professional athletic career, earns a college scholarship, enters the business world, or chooses another profession, education remains one of the greatest investments they can carry throughout life.

Our mission is therefore not simply to help students graduate, but to prepare them to become responsible individuals, lifelong learners, and future leaders who will make meaningful contributions to society.

Some of our student-athletes are also scholars, while others are enrolled through our regular Homeschool Program. Regardless of circumstance, every learner receives the same commitment from Childlink—to provide an education that respects their dreams while preparing them for the opportunities and responsibilities that await them beyond sports.

As these young swimmers continue to pursue excellence in the pool, Childlink proudly stands beside them—not merely as their school, but as a partner in nurturing their future.

To Adrianna, Rhianna, Caitlin, Louis, the Hydro Immersion Swimming Team, Coaches Ryan Galo and Danica Camille Galo, and the families who continue to support these remarkable young athletes, we extend our sincerest congratulations.

May your recent victories be only the beginning of many more achievements to come.

Because true champions are not measured only by the medals they win—but by the character they build, the lives they touch, and the future they create.
