The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Ilocos Sur Provincial Office, in collaboration with the Provincial Government of Ilocos Sur, successfully launched the Search for the Most Functional Local Price Coordinating Councils (LPCCs) on June 2, 2026, in Vigan City via Zoom. The launching was attended by Mr. Jester Singson who represented Governor Jeremias C. Singson; Hon. Janina Carine S. Medina-Fariรฑas, Chairperson of the Committee on Trade and Industry and Industrial Development; members of the Provincial Price Coordinating Council (PPCC); and representatives from the Local Government Units (LGUs) of the province.
The activity aimed to discuss the guidelines and criteria for the Search and further strengthen the capacity of LGUs in implementing Republic Act No. 7581, otherwise known as the Price Act.
In his welcome remarks, DTI Ilocos Sur Provincial Director H. A. Zaldy Z. Zafra Jr. expressed his gratitude to Governor Jeremias C. Singson, SPM Janina Carine S. Medina-Fariรฑas, and the members of the PPCC for their continued commitment to promoting consumer welfare, fair trade, and price stability in local communities.
In the message of Governor Singson delivered by Mr. Jester Singson, he emphasized that โthe Search is not just a recognition of performance; it is also a call for stronger collaboration, vigilance, and commitment among LGUs. Through active Councils, we strengthen public trust and help our communities become more resilient to economic pressures that continue to affect ordinary families. May this initiative inspire every municipality and city to remain proactive and responsive in addressing the needs of our people.โ
Meanwhile, SPM Medina-Fariรฑas highlighted the vital role of LPCCs in ensuring the effective implementation of the Price Act at the local level. She stated that โthe LPCC is more than a committee; it is a mechanism that brings together local governments, national agencies, and stakeholders to ensure that the provisions of the Price Act are felt where they matter most. By recognizing the Most Functional LPCCs, we are not simply giving awardsโwe are encouraging excellence, creating standards, and building a culture where consumer protection and price monitoring are treated as essential responsibilities of local governments.โ
During the activity, DTI Ilocos Sur presented the Search guidelines, evaluation criteria, documentary requirements, and timelines for submission and assessment. The Search seeks to recognize and reward outstanding LPCCs that have demonstrated exemplary performance in price monitoring, consumer protection, market coordination, and implementation of programs and policies under the Price Act.
Through this Search, DTI Ilocos Sur and the Provincial Government of Ilocos Sur reaffirm their commitment to fostering responsive, proactive, and effective Local Price Coordinating Councils that contribute to promoting the welfare of consumers and promoting economic stability throughout the province.
