CLARIN, Misamis Occidental โ The Municipality of Clarin, Misamis Occidental is set to host a Bangus Culture in HDPE Fishcage Training on August 25โ26, 2026, beginning at 8:00 a.m., at Purok 1, Dela Paz, Clarin, Misamis Occidental.
The two-day training brings together fisheries and aquaculture stakeholders to strengthen knowledge and skills in bangus production using high-density polyethylene (HDPE) fishcages. The activity is supported by the Department of Agriculture, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), the Province of Misamis Occidental, and the Municipality of Clarin.
The program opens with the registration of participants, followed by preliminary activities including an opening prayer, the Philippine National Anthem, and the BFAR Hymn. An introduction of participants will then be followed by welcome messages from local and fisheries officials.
Among those scheduled to deliver messages are Municipal Agriculture Officer Maโam Kimberly Ann Dawn Butalid, Felix L. Mejos, OIC-PFO Misamis Occidental, and Hon. Riza S. Oaminal-Delos Santos, Municipal Mayor of Clarin represented by SB Member Hon. Regino Barrientos Committee of Agriculture.
The first dayโs sessions will cover the rationale and objectives of the activity, presentation of BFAR programs and projects, and a series of technical discussions on bangus culture. Topics include the basic biology of bangus, taxonomy of bangus, introduction to milkfish in the Philippines, reproduction and spawning, instruments of quality monitoring, culture areas and methods, culture site selection, culture proper, stocking, feeding management, sampling and monitoring, and harvesting.
The second day will focus on practical and management aspects of aquaculture, beginning with a recap of the topics discussed on the first day. Sessions will include Good Aquaculture Practices, Proper Fish Handling, and Gender and Development, followed by a post-test.
A Fish Nโ Learn Activity is also scheduled in the afternoon, providing participants with an opportunity to further apply their knowledge. The program will conclude with a discussion and presentation of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA), followed by an Open Forum.
The training is expected to contribute to the continuing development of local aquaculture by providing participants with practical knowledge on sustainable bangus production, proper fish handling, fishcage management, and good aquaculture practices.
The activity reflects the continuing cooperation among national government agencies, the provincial government, the Municipality of Clarin, barangay officials, and aquaculture practitioners in promoting fisheries development and livelihood opportunities in the community.
Hon. Riza S. Oaminal-Delos Santos, Municipal Mayor of Clarin, is among the local officials supporting the activity.
