BEWARE OF CRYPTOCURRENCY SCAMS, PNP WARNS THE PUBLIC

The Philippine National Police (PNP) reminds the public to stay vigilant against the growing threat of cryptocurrency and other online investment scams, which continue to victimize many citizens.

According to records from the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG), a total of 311 investment scam cases were reported from January 1 to December 31, 2025, 12 of which involved cryptocurrency schemes.

These scams usually begin by offering “high returns” to lure victims into investing and even encouraging them to recruit others. At first, withdrawals may be allowed to gain trust, but eventually, access to earnings and accounts is suddenly blocked, causing invested money to be lost permanently.

The PNP urges the public to always verify the legitimacy of any online investment or cryptocurrency platform before committing funds. Citizens should be cautious of promises of guaranteed high returns, avoid sharing personal banking or account information online, and report any suspicious activities immediately to the nearest police station or the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group.

Staying informed, asking questions, and educating family members about common online fraud schemes are also key steps in avoiding being victimized.

The PNP thru PNP Ant-Cybercrime Group continues to raise awareness and provide guidance to ensure that citizens can safely navigate online financial opportunities without falling prey to scams.

Through vigilance and collaboration with the public, the PNP is committed to keeping citizens safe online, upholding the mission of Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat at Nararamdaman.

“This is more than an outreach activity; this is about restoring hope and protecting the emotional well-being of our children in times of crisis.

“The strength of a nation is measured by how it protects its most vulnerable.

7 MOST WANTED FALL AS PNP SEIZES ₱63.3M IN ILLEGAL DRUGS, SMUGGLED CI******ES

The Philippine National Police (PNP) recorded major operational gains in its intensified campaign against criminality, arresting seven most wanted persons, dismantling illegal drug activities worth over ₱31.6 million, and seizing ₱31.75 million worth of smuggled ci******es in a series of coordinated operations nationwide.

Among those arrested was a National Most Wanted Person apprehended in Sarangani Province, facing charges of multiple r**e, a grave offense that had long unsettled the local community.

In Leyte, police units arrested two regional MWPs for violations of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act (RA 9165). Both suspects are facing charges for the sale and possession of illegal drugs, with warrants likewise carrying no bail, underscoring the seriousness of the offenses.

Separate police operations in Marikina City and Surigao del Sur led to the arrest of high-ranking MWPs, including cases involving minors. These operations were conducted discreetly to ensure the safety of victims and prevent public disturbance.

Additional arrests in La Union and Rizal involved suspects wanted for sexual assault, acts of lasciviousness, theft, and murder, with bail either denied or set at substantial amounts by the courts.

All arrested suspects are now under police custody for proper documentation and legal proceedings.

PNP Chief Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. emphasized that the arrest of MWPs remains a top priority of the organization.

“These are not petty offenders. These are individuals accused of serious crimes that leave lasting harm on victims and communities,” PGen Nartatez Jr. said.

The PNP’s anti-illegal drugs campaign resulted in the seizure of ₱31,618,000.00 worth of illegal drugs, led by large-scale ma*****na eradication operations in Kibungan, Benguet, and a successful buy-bust operation in Iloilo City.

In Benguet, police operatives discovered, documented, and destroyed 49,750 pieces of fully grown ma*****na plants, along with dried ma*****na leaves, with a combined estimated value exceeding ₱30 million. The illegal plantations were burned on-site following proper documentation. Follow-up investigations are ongoing to identify those behind the plantations.

Meanwhile, in Iloilo City, operatives arrested two High-Value Individuals (HVIs)—a male and a female suspect—during a buy-bust operation. The suspects were found in possession of more than 215 grams of suspected shabu worth ₱1.46 million, along with buy-bust money and other non-drug items. Intelligence reports indicate that the suspects were actively involved in the local drug distribution network.

“By going after the source and distributors, mas ramdam ng komunidad ang epekto ng ating kampanya.”

In Zamboanga City, a joint anti-smuggling operation led by PNP units resulted in the seizure of 635 master cases of smuggled ci******es with an estimated market value of ₱31.75 million. Five Filipino male suspects, aged 21 to 33, were arrested during the operation.

The confiscated items included various cigarette brands, intercepted during a coordinated maritime and land-based operation. Proper inventory and valuation were conducted in the presence of witnesses, media representatives, and barangay officials to ensure transparency and accountability.

“These results reflect a police force that acts with urgency and purpose. Smuggling weakens our economy and often supports other criminal activities the Chief PNP, PGen Nartatez Jr. said.

As operations continue nationwide, the PNP reiterated its resolve to relentlessly pursue fugitives, dismantle illegal drug networks, and curb smuggling—efforts aimed at building safer communities under a Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat at Nararamdaman.

PNP, UNIFIED 911 BRING MISSING PWD HOME AFTER ONE YEAR

A single emergency call became the turning point in a family’s year-long search for a missing loved one. Under the command of PNP Chief PGEN Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., and with the strengthened emergency platform of Unified 911 under the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) led by Secretary Juanito Victor Remulla, the Philippine National Police ensured the safe return of a person with disability (PWD) to his family.

At about 11:25 p.m. on January 25, 2026, a sibling sought assistance through Unified 911 hotline after finding his brother, a PWD with a mental health condition, in Nagcarlan, Laguna. The individual had been missing for nearly a year. Lacking the financial means to transport him back home, the family urgently requested police assistance.

Acting without delay, personnel of the Nagcarlan Municipal Police Station (MPS) verified the situation and personally escorted the PWD to facilitate his safe return. He was later turned over to his waiting family at the Tipas, Taguig City Police Station, marking an emotional reunion after months of uncertainty.

The operation highlighted how Unified 911 serves as a critical bridge between citizens and immediate government assistance, ensuring that even non-criminal emergencies receive prompt and compassionate action. It also reflects the PNP’s broader commitment to safeguarding vulnerable members of society and strengthening trust within communities.

“Our police officers are called not only to enforce the law but to respond when people are in need of help and protection.

“No family should feel alone in moments of crisis. The PNP will continue to act decisively to reunite families and protect those who cannot protect themselves. Naroon ang pulisya upang umalalay at tiyaking ligtas ang bawat mamamayan,” PGEN Nartatez Jr. added.

This accomplishment aligns with the PNP Focused Agenda—its strategic direction for organizational development designed to make police service more people-centered and reliable. Among its key priorities, Enhanced Managing Police Operations and Active Community Support remain central, reinforcing initiatives that foster direct assistance, community trust, and immediate response to those in vulnerable situations.

As the PNP enhances its emergency response capability and community outreach efforts under the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., it continues to assure the public of “Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong mabilis, tapat, at nararamdaman.”

TRUST IN GOVERNMENT GROWS AS SEVEN SURRENDER IN REGION 1

Choosing peace over conflict, seven individuals have voluntarily returned to the fold of the law as police anti-insurgency efforts in Region 1 gained fresh momentum from January 22 to 28, 2026. The development signals growing public trust in government-led peace initiatives and community-based policing.

The surrenderees—identified as former supporters and members of local underground groups—formally renounced their involvement in insurgency-related activities and committed to live peacefully within their communities. Police officials said the surrender was the result of sustained engagement, dialogue, and focused operations carried out on the ground.

PNP Chief Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. welcomed the development, noting that the outcome reflects the impact of the Enhanced Managing Police Operations (EMPO) under the PNP Focused Agenda.

“When police presence is consistent, fair, and community-centered, people see that there is a better path—one that leads back to their families and their communities.”

He stressed that the PNP’s approach goes beyond enforcement, focusing instead on listening, coordination with local stakeholders, and providing clear, lawful options for those who want to start anew.

“Peace is built when people feel heard and supported,” the PGen Nartatez added.

Police officials in Region 1 said the recent surrenders are part of broader gains achieved through close coordination with local government units, community leaders, and other security partners—efforts aimed at preventing recruitment and addressing the roots of conflict at the community level.

The PNP reiterated its commitment to sustaining dialogue, strengthening partnerships, and ensuring that those who return to the fold of the law receive the necessary support to rebuild their lives.

As the police continue to refine operations under EMPO, the PNP underscored that peace and security efforts will remain people-centered, anchored on trust, accountability, and service.

The initiative forms part of the PNP’s continuing mission of Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat at Nararamdaman—a commitment to deliver policing that is responsive, honest, and truly felt by the people.
