LGU Columbio Joins the 2nd Padada River Watershed Management Council Meeting

The Municipality of Columbio, through the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO), proudly participated in the 2nd Council Meeting of the Padada River Watershed Management Council (PRWMC) on July 14, 2026, at the DENR-PENRO Conference Room in Digos City, Davao del Sur.

As the headwater municipality of the Padada River Watershed, Columbio plays a vital role in protecting the forests and river systems that supply water to downstream communities in Kiblawan, Matanao, Magsaysay, and Malalag before ultimately flowing into the Davao Gulf. The protection of our upland forests and watersheds directly contributes to clean water, sustainable agriculture, biodiversity conservation, and climate resilience across the region.

The Council meeting focused on strengthening collaboration among member local government units and partner agencies through watershed planning, policy development, and priority conservation initiatives. Columbio's active participation reinforces its commitment to safeguarding our headwaters and advancing sustainable watershed management for the benefit of both present and future generations.

Protecting Columbio's headwaters means protecting the communities and ecosystems downstream.

A reminder that under RA 9175, proper regulation of chainsaw use is essential to protect our forests and sustain our natural resources!

In line with its commitment to protect and conserve forest resources, the DENR SOCCSKSARGEN shares its information, education, and communication (IEC) campaign on Republic Act No. 9175 to raise public awareness.

This law regulates the ownership, sale, transfer, and use of chainsaws to prevent illegal logging and ensure sustainable forest management.
Owning a chainsaw without legal authorization is a punishable offense under RA 9175.

Sa ilalim ng RA 9175 o Chainsaw Act of 2002, mahigpit na ipinapatupad ang regulasyon sa paggamit at pagmamay-ari ng chainsaw upang mapigilan ang ilegal na pagputol ng puno.

Ibinabahagi ng DENR SOCCSKSARGEN ang IEC campaign ukol sa RA 9175 upang mapalawak ang kaalaman ng publiko. Sama-sama nating pangalagaan ang ating likas na yaman.

The 1st Quarterly Meeting of the Deputy Environment and Natural Resources Officers (DENROs) of Columbio, held on January 9, 2026, marked an important step toward more responsive and effective environmental governance.

A key highlight of the meeting was the presentation of the plan to strengthen environmental monitoring through the use of communication technology and the Environmental Incident Report (EIR) Tool, developed with the valuable support of the University of Southern Mindanao. This tool aims to improve real-time reporting, documentation, and response to environmental concerns across barangays.

By enhancing coordination and equipping DENROs with practical digital tools, the LGU of Columbio continues to reinforce its commitment to biodiversity conservation, environmental law enforcement, and community-based protection of natural resources. This initiative strengthens local action, supports informed decision-making, and ensures a more proactive approach to safeguarding our environment.

Together, we protect Columbio’s biodiversity—for today and for future generations.

The University of Southern Mindanao BIOnihan para sa Kalikasan Team recently paid a courtesy visit to Mayor Amirh M. Musali, reaffirming the strong partnership between LGU Columbio and the University of Mindanao in implementing the BIOnihan Project in Columbio—Promoting Holistic Biodiversity Conservation through Community Partnership.

This meaningful collaboration continues to gain recognition, with the project recently cited as Most Outstanding ASEAN SDG Project during the ASEAN Conference on Extension for Sustainable Development Goals Summit 2025, reflecting the impact of community-driven environmental action in Columbio.

LOOK! Municipality of Columbio mobilized its 16 barangays for a community-wide clean-up effort on September 19, 2025 in line with the observance of the International Coastal Clean Up lead by DENR-Environment Management Bureau (EMB) 12.

While Columbio has no coastal areas, its participation highlights a commitment to the broader goals of the global initiative. Volunteers focused their efforts on cleaning public spaces, highways, canals, and other local water bodies, preventing inland trash from reaching and polluting major waterways.

The activity was a collaborative effort involving various sectors, underscoring that environmental stewardship is a shared responsibility. The initiative aimed to raise local awareness about solid waste management and its crucial link to a healthier environment and in making Columbio - Columviewtiful!
