WATTS OF LOVE, VOLUNTEERS LEAD PROJECT LIWANAG IN BRGY SALACAFE, T’BOLI
T’BOLI, SOUTH COTABATO — Watts of Love, represented by Ms. Donna Lorenzo, successfully conducted Project Liwanag: Light of Hope and Financial Literacy Community Outreach from March 20 to 22, 2026, in Sitio Tahikong, Barangay Salacafe, T’boli, South Cotabato, in partnership with the 105th Infantry (SAIFULLAH) Battalion under the leadership of LTC ERIKZEN C DACOCO INF (GSC) PA, Commanding Officer, and other stakeholders.
The initiative was made possible through the efforts of the troops in this unit, who identified the target beneficiaries during the conduct of the Mobile Community Support Sustainment Program (MCSSP), and Fr. Romer Cabrera, who introduced Watts of Love to South Cotabato. The unit also provided logistical and security support during the activity. The outreach was supported by the Local Government Unit of T’boli under the leadership of Hon. Keo Dayle Tuan, Municipal Mayor, and Ms. Nimfa Bangon Gaspar.
The activity benefited approximately 300 households from Sitio Tahikong and nearby sitios, including So. Syum Bulol, So. Blu, and Datal B**g, through the distribution of solar lights, slippers, hygiene kits, used clothes, toys, and snacks for children. Free haircut services to the residents were provided by unit personnel.
Volunteer groups played a significant role in the success of the activity, including the Kudlit Artist Team led by Mr. Dodz Mcbaldz, who facilitated face painting activities for children. MAGSIGE MPC, represented by Ms. Merlin Grace Magsael, also donated the slippers given to the community. Teachers from the Department of Education, South Cotabato, particularly those assigned in Sitio Tahikong, also extended their support in organizing beneficiaries and assisting in the overall conduct of the outreach.
The team also extended the activity to Lake Holon, where solar lights were distributed to local oarsmen, coupled with a brief discussion by Ms. Donna on the importance of financial literacy to help improve their daily lives and sustain their livelihoods.
The successful implementation of Project Liwanag highlights the strong collaboration among non-government organizations, local government units, educators, civilian volunteers, and the Philippine Army in delivering essential services in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas of South Cotabato.
