The Ministry ofHealth Population Division chief, Datu Abdulshattar E. Zailon II, RN, MPH attended and actively participated in the Purokalusugan Program conducted by the Rural Health Unit (RHU) of Sultan Kudarat , demonstrating his support for initiatives that prioritize the well-being of the community.

The Program aims deliver essential health services and promote preventive healthcare at the community level and increase public awareness on health-related concerns while providing accessible medical assistance to residents.

The program included medical consultations, distribution of Health Kits and medicines, and health education sessions that benefited the residents. Overall, the activity was successful in strengthening community health services which ensure sustained access to quality healthcare.

A coordination initiative was done from the JICA–INAWATANU–BARMM Project requesting access to relevant datasets to support the implementation of the Maternal and Child Health and Nutrition Project in BARMM with the Ministry of Health- Population Division chief, Datu Abdulshattar E. Zailon II, RN, MPH.

Key discussions of the meeting were data gathering which includes socioeconomic profiles from Rural Health Units (RHUs), information on Indigenous Peoples (IP) communities, data for teenage pregnancies, and other relevant datasets necessary for planning and monitoring. These data components are considered essential in identifying priority areas, improving service delivery, and enhancing the overall impact of maternal and child health interventions in the region.

The meeting ensure support in advancing health-workers capacity to deliver services for maternal, child health, nutrition and strengthening partnership with Local Government Units for a better delivery of health services in the Bangsamoro region.

The Ministry of Health Population Division chief, Datu Abdulshattar E. Zailon II, RN, MPH attended the Department of Health, in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) workshop on Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC) and Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Standards of Care Validation Workshop. The activity gathered key health professionals, Women and Children Protection Program focal persons, representatives from DOH hospitals, and partner stakeholders to review and validate the proposed standards of care for victim-survivors of VAWC/GBV. The workshop aimed to ensure that health services provided are survivor-centered, comprehensive, gender- and age-responsive, and aligned with national policies and international commitments.

The workshop ends with a consolidated set of inputs that will inform the finalization of the VAWC/GBV Standards of Care. The activity reinforced the commitment of the health sector and its partners to uphold safe, respectful, and responsive services for all victim-survivors and strengthen the country’s response to VAWC/GBV and promoting the protection of women and children.

The Ministry of Health – BARMM, through the Population Division under the Adolescent Health and Development Program (AHDP), conducted the Annual Assessment of Adolescent-Friendly Health Facilities (AFHFs) in Cotabato City and the Special Geographic Area on April 20–24, 2025.

The activity focused on assessing the implementation of youth-friendly health services, particularly in ensuring accessibility, confidentiality, respect, and quality of care for adolescents. It also reviewed the performance of health facilities in delivering services related to nutrition, mental health, and sexual and reproductive health.

The assessment served as a key mechanism in strengthening adolescent health services and ensuring continuous improvement across health facilities in the region.

The activity also encouraged health facilities to attain Level 2 accreditation, with continued support and guidance from the MOH-Population Division, Special Geographic Area – Field Health Office, and Cotabato City Health Office, in strengthening the delivery of adolescent-friendly health services.

The monitoring of the activity was undertaken by Jeremy Toledo, AHDP Coordinator, and Princess Salsam N. Ampatuan, AHDP Assistant, from the Population Division.

The MOH-Population Division remains committed to enhancing adolescent health programs and services in the Bangsamoro region.
