In light of this monthโs celebration of the National Womenโs Month, Bangsamoro History Month, and the 11th Anniversary of the Signing of the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB), we are featuring women who have made significant contributions to the peace process between the Government of the Philippines (GPH) and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (M**F).
Engr. Aida M. Silongan is the Co-Chair of the Task Force for Decommissioned Combatants and their Communities (TFDCC) on the side of the M**F. In the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA), she served as a Member of Parliament from 2019 to 2025 and is currently the Minister of Science and Technology.
An engineer by profession, she shifted her path to volunteer to the M**F, specifically to its women sector. She organized nine sub-committees of the M**F Social Welfare Committee (SWC) across the Bangsamoro and eventually became the SWCโs Executive Secretary up to now. Engr. Silongan also became the first and only woman member of the Board of Directors of the Bangsamoro Development Agency (BDA), the M**Fโs development arm.
Engr. Silongan managed development projects in the Bangsamoro, being a Program Manager for the Mindanao Trust Fund - Reconstruction and Development Program (MTF-RDP) in partnership with the World Bank, and Program Management Officer for the Community Development for Conflict-Affected Areas in Mindanao (CD-CAAM) in partnership with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
Continuing her work in development, Engr. Silongan co-founded and became the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Al-Amanah Humanitarian Development Services, Inc., a nongovernment organization (NGO) that caters to the vulnerable sectors in the Bangsamoro, especially women and children. She also was the lead convenor of the Womenโs Organization Movement of Bangsamoro (WOMB), a federation of 30 women organizations in Mindanao which advocated for the passage of the then-Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL).
