𝗣𝗔𝗚𝗔𝗟𝗨𝗡𝗚𝗔𝗡, 𝗠𝗮𝗴𝘂𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗼 𝗱𝗲𝗹 𝗦𝘂𝗿 – The Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST-BARMM) and the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Pagalungan formalized their partnership through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the project: Provision of On-the-Go Water Purification System (SafeWaTrS Mobile Water Disinfection System) to the Municipality of Pagalungan, Maguindanao del Sur. The project is under the Technology Assistance for Commercialization Project (TechACP) - Innovative Mechanisms for Promotion, Application, Commercialization, and Transfer of Technology (IMPACT) Program of the Science and Technology Services Division – Technology Transfer Section.

SafeWaTrS Mobile Water Disinfection System, a technology developed by DOST – Industrial Technology Development Institute, is a manually controlled, compact, and mobile water treatment system powered by solar energy that can produce up to 2,000 liters of potable water in nine hours. It is a science and technology-based solution designed to provide safe drinking water during emergencies and disaster situations.

The partnership aims to strengthen the municipality's disaster preparedness and response capabilities by ensuring access to potable water, particularly in communities affected by seasonal flooding.

Representing the Municipality of Pagalungan, Vice Mayor Hon. Mohamiden G. Mamasabulod expressed the municipality’s gratitude to MOST-BARMM for selecting the Municipality of Pagalungan as the first ever beneficiary of the SafeWaTrs technology. Situated near the Ligawasan Marsh, Pagalungan is highly vulnerable to flooding, which often contaminates local water sources and disrupts water supply systems, posing risks to public health and community well-being. He noted that the technology will greatly benefit communities that frequently experience flooding and face challenges in accessing safe drinking water.

Minister MP Baileng S. Mantawil, represented by Atty. Bai Pangandongan G. Dilangalen, coveyed the her full support for the implementation of the project. She also commend the enthusiasm and readiness of the LGU Pagalungan in embracing innovative solutions which demonstrate the municipality’s dedication to improving the welfare of its constituents.

Moreover, Engr. Abdulrakman K. Asim, Bangsamoro Director General of MOST-BARMM, emphasized that the initiative reflects the commitment of the ministry in promoting science, technology, and innovation solutions that directly address the needs of Bangsamoro communities.

Monawara M. Abdulbadie, Chief SRS of S&T Services Division, presented the the overview of the project and presented also the salient provisions of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

Also present during the MOU signing ceremony were Benjamin Alip, LGU Pagalungan MDRRM Officer, Bea Hannah Kashmira U. Midtimbang, Senior SRS, Bai Samera A. Gumandel, SRS II, and Naut Usman, AO I.

The partnership further demonstrate the shared commitment to harness science and technology in advancing sustainable development and safeguarding public health across the Bangsamoro region.

In line with its commitment to strengthening innovation and protecting creative technologies in the Bangsamoro region, the Ministry of Science and Technology – BARMM successfully conducted the Capacity Building on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Protection for the winners of the 2025 INNOVATHON Challenge.

The activity aimed to enhance the participants’ understanding of intellectual property rights and its importance in safeguarding innovative ideas, inventions, and technological solutions. Through the training, the young innovators were introduced to the fundamentals of patents, trademarks, copyrights, utility models, industrial designs, and intellectual property registration processes.

Resource person, Engr. Norhayla S. Magandia, Senior Science Research Specialist of MOST-BARMM, shared valuable insights on the significance of intellectual property protection in technology development, commercialization, and sustainable innovation. Interactive discussions and workshops also provided the participants with opportunities to raise questions and explore practical applications of IP protection for their respective projects.

The training highlighted MOST-BARMM’s continuing efforts to empower innovators and nurture a culture of research, creativity, and responsible innovation across the Bangsamoro region. By equipping the 2025 INNOVATHON Challenge winners with knowledge on intellectual property rights, the Ministry continues to support the development of innovation-driven solutions that can contribute to regional growth and community development.

𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘄𝗶 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗼 𝗱𝗲𝗹 𝗦𝘂𝗿 – The Technology Transfer Section – Science and Technology Services Division of the Ministry of Science and Technology-BARMM (MOST-BARMM) conducted a Technology Transfer Training on Chocolate Processing for the Kamapiyaan sa Tagoranao Marketing Cooperative in Marawi City as part of its continuing efforts to enhance the productivity and competitiveness of local enterprises through science, technology, and innovation.

The activity is part of MOST-BARMM’s continuing efforts to promote science, technology, and innovation across the Bangsamoro region. Through the Technology Transfer and Commercialization Program (TTCP), the ministry provides technology-based solutions, knowledge and technology transfer, and technical assistance to local enterprises, adoptors, and service providers to help improve product standards and expand market opportunities.

During the training, cooperative members gained hands-on experience in operating and managing modern processing equipment, enabling them to adopt more efficient production practices and ensure consistent product quality. The initiative is expected to contribute to the growth of technology-based enterprises and strengthen the competitiveness of local products in BARMM.

With this year's theme, “Building a Resilient and Inclusive Digital Region,” the observance highlights the importance of strengthening digital connectivity, expanding access to technology, and fostering an inclusive digital future for all communities.
