The Fisheries Resource Protection Group of Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Agrarian Reform-BARMM successfully conducted the Mandatory Training of Fish Sellers, Fish Dealers, Transporters, Importers, Exporters, Possessors etc. In Maluso, Basilan.

Pursuant to Sec. 126.1 of RA 8550 as amended by RA 10654, the DA-BFAR shall train Fish Sellers, Fish Dealers, Transporters, Importers, Exporters, Possessors, etc. in the detection of fish caught through the use of explosives. 58 participants were trained including the LGU personnel of Maluso, Basilan.

The team discussed the Salient features of the Philippine Fisheries Code, selling/gathering of prohibited fish and aquatic species, external and internal manifestations of blasted fish, how to dissect the fish and the penalties for violating Sec. 126 of RA 8550 as amended by RA 10654. Provincial Fatua (an IEC Material) in Tausug version was also distributed during the training.

The said activity was initiated by the Fisheries Regulatory and Law Enforcement Division headed by Chief Eduardo E. Arboleda thru the assistance of LGU Maluso and MAFAR-Basilan office.

On or about 14:00H of 21 November 2020, the Fisheries Resource Protection Group (FRPG) of Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Agrarian Reform-BARMM headed by Jamil D. Umpara through the initiative of Eduardo E. Arboleda, Chief, Fisheries Regulatory and Law Enforcement Division, coordinated with the Office of the Regional Director PBGen Samuel P. Rodriguez re: the continuation of Fisheries mobile checkpoint operation and the implementation of Fishery Laws, Rules and Regulations and other related laws in BARMM.

The establishment of Mobile Checkpoint targets the movement of fish and fishery products going in and out of the area of BARMM to ensure that no fish caught through the use of explosives, noxious substances and threatened/endangered aquatic species being transported shall be given an Auxiliary Invoice/Local Transport Permits.

PBGen Samuel P. Rodriguez expressed his willingness, full support and cooperation in the activities of Fisheries Resource Protection Group in combatting Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing under RA 8550 as amended by RA 10654. The creation of Memorandum of Agreement/Understanding between MAFAR and PROBAR was also discussed during the meeting.

On November 16, 2019 at about 10:30H, the Fisheries Resource Protection Group of MAFAR-BARMM and the Philippine Coast Guard headed by Commander Alejandro Arica on board MCS 3010 conducted joint seaborne operation on BARMM waters particularly in Basilan Strait and East Sulu Sea. The group intercepted and apprehended F/V ALJHAYHAN-II along the vicinity of East Bolod Is., Tongkil, Sulu for violating Sec. 97, Sec. 93, Sec. 86 and Sec. 113 of RA 8550 as amended by RA 10654.
