On the Ambush Targeting BARMM Interim Chief Minister Abdulraof "Sammy Gambar" Macacua
The Bangsamoro Human Rights CommissionโMaguindanao del Norte strongly condemns the reported armed attack against the convoy of Interim Chief Minister Abdulraof โSammy Gambarโ Macacua on August 15, 2026.
The Commission is relieved that the Interim Chief Minister and his companions were unharmed. Nevertheless, any act of violence that places human lives at risk is unacceptable and must be firmly condemned.
As an independent human rights institution, the BHRC does not take sides in political affairs. We stand for the protection of life, human dignity, peace, and the rule of law.
We call on law enforcement entities, and relevant investigative agencies to launch and execute a prompt, rigorous, independent, and impartial investigation into the attack. It is paramount that those responsible for this act of aggression are swiftly identified, apprehended, and brought to justice under the rule of law to ensure accountability and prevent the recurrence of similar acts of violence.
At this critical time, we urge our Bangsamoro leaders, political groups, and community members across the region to remain calm, and exercise maximum restraint. Let us not allow this incident to become a source of division, hatred, or conflict among our people. Whatever the circumstances behind this attack, the Bangsamoro must not be allowed to be divided by violence.
Upholding human rights, safeguarding democratic space, and maintaining peace and order are shared, collective duties, requiring the resolute cooperation, vigilance, and unwavering commitment of every sector of our society to ensure that the rule of law, justice, and peace prevail.
