The center of Tropical Storm BASYANG was estimated based on all available data at 150 km East of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur (8.2°N, 127.7°E).

Severe Winds
The wind signals warn the public of the general wind threat over an area due to the tropical cyclone. Local winds may be slightly stronger/enhanced in coastal and upland/mountainous areas exposed to winds. Winds are less strong in areas sheltered from the prevailing wind direction.
• Minimal to minor impacts from strong winds are possible within any of the areas under Wind Signal No. 1.
• Minor to moderate impacts from gale-force winds are possible within any of the areas under Wind Signal No. 2.
The surge of the Northeast Monsoon will also bring strong to gale-force gusts over the following areas (especially in coastal and upland areas exposed to winds):
• Today: Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Aurora, Central Luzon, Metro Manila, CALABARZON, Bicol Region, MIMAROPA, Visayas, and most of Mindanao.
• Tomorrow (06 February): Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Ilocos Norte, Apayao, Abra, Northern portion of Mainland Cagayan, Eastern portion of Isabela, Most of Central Luzon, Metro Manila, CALABARZON, Bicol Region, Most of MIMAROPA, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Dinagat Islands, Siargao and Bucas Grande Islands, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Agusan Del Norte, Misamis Oriental, Lanao Del Norte, Lanao del Sur, Bukidnon, Misamis Occidental, Zamboanga Peninsula, southern portion of SOCCSKSARGEN, Davao de Oro, Davao del Norte, and Davao Oriental.

Coastal Flooding
There is a minimal to moderate risk of storm surge with peak heights reaching up to 2.0 m within the next 48 hours over the low-lying or exposed coastal communities of Occidental Mindoro. Oriental Mindoro, Romblon, Palawan including Calamian, Cuyo, and Cagayancillo islands, Antique, AKlan, Capiz, Iloilo, Guimaraz, Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, Cebu, Bohol, Guimaras, Siquijor, Southern Leyte, Leyte, Camiguin, Dinagat Islands, Siargao and Bucas Grande Islands, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Davao Oriental, Agusan del Norte, Misamis Oriental, Lanao del Norte and Misamis Occidental. HAZARDS AFFECTING COASTAL WATERS

24-Hour Sea Condition Outlook
Up to very rough seas over the following coastal waters:
• Up to 5.5 m: The seaboard of Surigao Del Sur
• Up to 5.0 m: The seaboard of Surigao Del Norte, Siargao-Bucas Grande Islands and Dinagat Islands.
• Up to 4.5 m: The eastern seaboards of Northern Samar, Eastern Samar; the seaboard of northern Davao Oriental, Camiguin, Siguijor, Misamis Oriental, and Misamis Occidental; the northern seaboards of Lanao del Norte; the southern seaboards of Bohol.
• Sea travel is risky for all types or tonnage of vessels. All mariners must remain in port or, if underway, seek shelter or safe harbor as soon as possible until winds and waves subside.
Up to rough seas over the following coastal waters:
• Up to 4.0 m: The northern and eastern seaboards of Catanduanes; the eastern seaboards of Albay and Sorsogon; the northern seaboard of Northern Samar; the remaining seaboards of Eastern Samar and Davao Oriental.
• Up to 3.5 m: The northern seaboards of Camarines Norte and Camarines Sur; the seaboard of southern Davao Del Sur; the eastern seaboards of Polillo Islands; the southern seaboards of Negros Occidental, Antique, Iloilo, Bohol and Guimaras; the remaining seaboards of Bohol and Lanao del Norte.
• Up to 3.0 m: The seaboards of Isabela, Aurora, northern Quezon, and Agusan Del Norte; the seaboard of southern Davao Del Sur; the seaboard of northern Zamboanga Del Norte.
• Mariners of small seacrafts, including all types of motorbancas, are advised not to venture out to sea under these conditions, especially if inexperienced or operating ill-equipped vessels.
Up to moderate seas over the following coastal waters:
• Up to 2.5 m: The seaboards of Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Leyte and Southern Leyte; the eastern seaboard of mainland Cagayan; the remaining seaboards of Cebu, Bohol, Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental and Zamboanga Del Norte.
• Up to 2.0 m: The seaboards of Palawan and Sarangani; the seaboard of western Zamboanga City; the southern seaboards of Occidental Mindoro and Occidental Mindoro; the remaining seaboards of Quezon, Bicol Region, and Western Visayas.
• Mariners of motorbancas and similarly sized vessels are advised to take precautionary measures while venturing out to sea and, if possible, avoid navigation under these conditions.
Other coastal waters have forecast wave heights of less than 2.0 m.
TRACK AND INTENSITY OUTLOOK
• It must be emphasized that heavy rainfall and severe winds may still be experienced in localities outside the landfall point and the forecast confidence cone. Refer to “Other Hazards affecting Land Areas” for more details. Furthermore, the track may still shift within the limit of the forecast confidence cone.
• BASYANG is temporarily moving west northwestward but may still move westward for the next 12 hours before turning west northwestward beginning tomorrow (06 February) morning. On the forecast track, the center of BASYANG will make its initial landfall over Surigao del Sur tonight or tomorrow early morning. After crossing Mindanao, it is likely to emerge over Bohol Sea tomorrow morning, and may pass close or make another landfall over Siquijor and the southern portion of Negros Oriental by tomorrow afternoon to evening. By tomorrow evening or Saturday (07 February) early morning, it will emerge over Sulu Sea, then traverse the northern portion of Palawan between Saturday afternoon and evening.
• BASYANG may further intensify prior to its initial landfall. It will then slightly weaken as it interacts with the landmass but it will likely remain a tropical storm. Further weakening into a tropical depression is forecast by Saturday and will be downgraded into a low pressure area by Sunday (08 February) afternoon or evening.
Considering these developments, the public and disaster risk reduction and management offices concerned are advised to take all necessary measures to protect life and property. Persons living in areas identified to be highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards are advised to follow evacuation and other instructions from local officials. For heavy rainfall warnings, thunderstorm/rainfall advisories, and other severe weather information specific to your area, please monitor products issued by your local PAGASA Regional Services Division.
