On August 26–28, 2026, the Bangsamoro Human Rights Commission’s (BHRC) Commission En Banc (CEB), led by Chairperson 𝑨𝒕𝒕𝒚. 𝑨𝒃𝒅𝒖𝒍 𝑹𝒂𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒅 𝑷. 𝑲𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒎, successfully conducted its 5th Provincial Case Audit and Coordination Conference in Cotabato City.

The conference was convened to discuss the plausible disposition of docketed cases within the Maguindanao del Sur Provincial Office (MDSPO) and Maguindanao del Norte Provincial Office (MDNPO). These findings will be recommended to the Commission Proper once a quorum is officially established. Notably, the body formulated recommendations for seven cases of alleged human rights abuses involving women, three cases involving children, five cases involving Indigenous Peoples, and four other cases of alleged human rights violations.

Chairperson 𝑨𝒕𝒕𝒚. 𝑨𝒃𝒅𝒖𝒍 𝑹𝒂𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒅 𝑷. 𝑲𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒎 frequently emphasizes that although the Commission Proper is a collegial body, the BHRC's services and operations will never be limited by its structural constraints. On 𝐀𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐬𝐭 24, 2026, the Executive Committee of the Bangsamoro Human Rights Commission (BHRC), led by its Chairperson, 𝑨𝒕𝒕𝒚. 𝑨𝒃𝒅𝒖𝒍 𝑹𝒂𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒅 𝑷. 𝑲𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒎, convened its 2nd Bi-Monthly Meeting for the second semester of FY 2026 at the BHRC Conference Room.

Among the significant matters discussed were the preparations for the upcoming 1𝐬𝐭 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐄𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, particularly the Commission’s role in promoting and protecting human rights throughout the electoral process. The Executive Committee emphasized the importance of ensuring that the elections are conducted in alignment with the principles of human rights, inclusivity, transparency, accountability, and peaceful democratic participation.

The BHRC reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening its institutional mechanisms and fulfilling its mandate to protect, promote, and fulfill human rights in the Bangsamoro, while remaining responsive to the evolving needs and concerns of the Bangsamoro people.

The Bangsamoro Human Rights Commission - Lanao del Sur Provincial Office (BHRC-LDSPO) has taken cognizance of the reported incident in Barangay Tampilong, Marawi City, on August 29, 2026, involving an operation by the government security forces which resulted in casualties, including civilians.

The Commission extends its deepest sympathy to the families of those who lost their lives and everyone affected by this tragic incident.

As the region’s human rights institution, the BHRC is doing its utmost to carry out its mandate to promote and protect human rights. We are taking the necessary steps to verify the facts, monitor the situation, and determine whether human rights concerns arising from the incident require appropriate action.

At this stage, we urge the public to remain calm and to refrain from spreading unverified information. Every life matters, and the protection of civilians must remain paramount even in the conduct of legitimate security operations.

The BHRC remains committed to truth, accountability, and the protection of human dignity, and will take appropriate action within the bounds of its mandate as the facts of the incident are established.

On August 26, 2026, the Bangsamoro Human Rights Commission (BHRC) and the Shari’ah Public Assistance Office (SPAO) formalized their partnership through the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) in Cotabato City.

Through this partnership, the BHRC and SPAO seek to complement their respective mandates and expertise, particularly in the areas of human rights protection, legal assistance, and access to justice. The collaboration also aims to facilitate appropriate referrals, strengthen coordination in handling cases, and promote greater awareness of legal and human rights among communities across the Bangsamoro.

More than a ceremonial signing, the MOA embodies a common vision of a Bangsamoro where justice is accessible, rights are respected, and every person is treated with dignity and fairness. It is a meaningful step toward building stronger institutions and ensuring that no Bangsamoro is left behind in the pursuit of justice and the protection of human rights.
