The Office for Transportation Security (OTS) reminds all passengers travelling through the airport to declare Fi****ms and similar items which could be mistaken as a real firearm. This was amidst another incident where Security Screening Officers (SSOs) of the Office for Transportation Security (OTS) intercepted an undeclared pellet gun placed in the checked baggage of a passenger bound for Dubai via Emirates flight EK337 at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 on February 4, 2026. This reminder aligns with President Ferdinand Bongbong Marcos Jr.โs directive to ensure the efficient and comfortable processing of passengers at the airport.
The OTS emphasizes that under the International Civil Aviation Organization standards, fi****ms and devices capable of causing serious injury or being mistaken for real weapons, such as replica guns, including pellet guns, are permitted only in checked baggage when transported according to proper firearm regulations. This means that such items must be declared with the proper law enforcement agency before entering the airport terminal.
The prohibited item was initially detected during routine X-ray screening by SSO Ma. Theresa Brazas, who immediately notified Baggage Inspector SSO Lexis Dinglasan and Checkpoint Supervisor Arvin Follero, who coordinated with the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group (PNP AVSEGROUP) and an airline representative, together with the owner of the luggage.
With the passengerโs consent, the OTS carried out a thorough manual inspection of the baggage, which verified the presence of the pellet gun. The item was promptly turned over to the PNP AVSEGROUP for proper custody. After proper documentation and clearance procedures, the passenger was permitted to continue with her flight, while the pellet gun was confiscated.
OTS Administrator Undersecretary Gilberto DC Cruz reiterated the agencyโs constant reminder that it is important for passengers to ensure that fi****ms and similar devices are strictly regulated within airports, noting that improper transport of such items may result in flight delays and unnecessary concern among passengers.
โ said Usec Cruz.
