CAMP SIONGCO, Awang, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao del Norte โ The Western Mindanao Command (WestMinCom) formally honored the courage and supreme sacrifice of two valiant soldiers of the 6th Infantry (Kampilan) Division who laid down their lives in the service of the Filipino people.
Posthumous military honors were conferred upon Sergeant Junie C. Mangalay Jr. and Sergeant Ryan Jun P. Bagual, both members of the 90th Infantry Battalion, who made the ultimate sacrifice while courageously engaging terrorist elements in Datu Hoffer, Maguindanao del Sur on January 27, 2026.
Lieutenant General Donald M. Gumiran, Commander of the Western Mindanao Command, together with Major General Jose Vladimir R. Cagara, Commander of the 6th Infantry (Kampilan) Division and Joint Task Force Central, personally led the awarding of the Posthumous Award and Military Merit Medal to Sgt. Mangalay Jr., received by his grieving family during a solemn ceremony at the Camp Siongco Mortuary on January 30, 2026.
Earlier, Sgt. Bagual was likewise honored with the same distinction in a separate ceremony held at his family residence in President Quirino, Sultan Kudarat, where the award was personally received by his loved ones. He was laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites, befitting a warrior who fought with honor and dignity until his final breath.
The families of the fallen heroes were also immediately provided with financial assistance, as part of the Armed Forces of the Philippinesโ continuing support to the families of soldiers who paid the ultimate price in the line of duty.
In the same visit, Lt. Gen. Gumiran also checked on Private First Class Arvin Jake C. Janiel, a wounded soldier who was among those involved in the fierce encounter and is currently recovering in Camp Siongco Station Hospital.
โOn behalf of the men and women of the Western Mindanao Command, I extend my deepest condolences and most profound respect to the families, friends, and comrades of our fallen heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice. Their actions embody the highest ideals of the Filipino soldierโselfless service, unwavering integrity, and courage that does not falter even in the face of death,โ Lt. Gen. Gumiran said.
In connection with this, funeral services were rendered in honor of Sergeant Junie C. Mangalay Jr., during which Fr. Jake Bilbao, Division Chaplain of the 6th Infantry (Kampilan) Division, led the blessing of the remains of the late soldier. The rites were held prior to his final send-off as his remains were brought to his hometown in Tupi, South Cotabato, where he will be laid to rest by his loved ones.
The 6th Infantry (Kampilan) Division and the Western Mindanao Command reaffirm their unwavering commitment to honor the sacrifices of their fallen, to care for the wounded and bereaved, and to continue the mission of safeguarding peace, security, and stability in the region.
