“POSITION FOR SALE” SCAM MASTERMIND ARRESTED

Police investigative units are digging deeper into the activities of a conman engaged in the notorious "position for sale" scam to identify and arrest6 other players in the swindle.

This developed after the Philippine National Police (PNP) announced the arrest of Edward Vincent Diokno Eje a.k.a. "Vaughn Monton Vincent," the mastermind behind the notorious "position for sale" scam.

Eje was apprehended in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig on Monday, February 13, 2023, 1:30 in the afternoon, after CIDG NCR responded to a complaint that EJE poked a gun at a motorcycle rider following an altercation.

The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) caught him in possession of One (1) Caliber 45mm ARMSCOR without serial number, Nine (9) live ammunition Cal 45mm, One (1) hand gr***de, Assorted identification Cards, and One (1) Black Mitsubishi Montero.

CIDG Top Cop, PBGEN Romeo M Caramat Jr. revealed that EJE is the subject of a complaint on the alleged appointment scam wherein several personalities were offered juicy government posts in exchange for a huge sum of money. He purportedly introduced himself as an employee of the Office of the President and even presented a fake identification card allegedly issued by Malacañang.

According to reports, eight victims received a letter, purportedly from a certain Undersecretary Eduardo Diokno and Assistant Secretary Johnson See, inviting them to the Malacañang Palace for their supposed swearing-in rites on January 27, 2023 to be presided over by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. The ceremony, however, was a sham.

Investigation revealed that Eje and his co-conspirator, Johnson Borja See, were responsible behind the scam.

The CIDG, together with the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency, the Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission, and the National Bureau of Investigation, conducted a thorough investigation that led to the arrest of EJE and the voluntary surrender of See to USEC Gilbert Cruz, the Executive Director of PAOCC.

Several other complainants including TV personalities and artists initially gave their statements to the police and NBI after learning of the arrest of Eje and surrender of See.

Meanwhile, Philippine National Police Chief, General Rodolfo S Azurin Jr, expressed his appreciation for the CIDG's breakthrough in cracking the case. "We commend the CIDG NCR for the swift action and commitment to uphold the law and protect the Filipino people from these illegal activities. We will continue to work hand in hand with the concerned authorities to ensure that justice is served and that the perpetrators are held accountable for their actions."

General Azurin emphasized that the PNP would not tolerate any form of illegal activities, particularly those that undermine public trust in government institutions.

The police are encouraging all victims and witnesses to come forward and provide information to help with the investigation.
