The National Commission for Culture and the Arts - National Committee on Libraries and Information Services (NCCA-NCLIS), in partnership with the Association of Librarians in Public Sector, Inc. (ALPS), Baguio City Public Library (BCPL), and the National Library of the Philippines (NLP), successfully conducted a two-day Training Workshop in celebration of National Heritage Month with the theme, โLibraries as Stewards of Cultural Heritage: A Capacity Building and Community Engagement,โ held last May 25โ26, 2026 at the Baguio City Public Library, Baguio City.
The workshop gathered librarians, cultural workers, storytellers, and information professionals from different parts of the country to strengthen the role of libraries in preserving and promoting Filipino heritage, culture, and local traditions through community engagement and innovative programs.
One of the highlights of the first day was the multilingual storytelling session, where four selected librarians from different regions of the Philippines were given the opportunity to perform stories using their respective local dialects. Representing the Camarines Norte Provincial Library was its very own storyteller, Ms. Joane Poala C. Tuazon, fondly known as โAte Dindi,โ a name she warmly introduces herself with during every storytelling session.
Ate Dindi proudly represented the Bicol Region through a storytelling performance delivered in the โBikolโ language, showcasing not only the beauty of the dialect but also the importance of preserving local languages as part of our cultural identity. Through her expressive narration and heartfelt storytelling, she was able to bring the audience closer to the rich heritage and traditions of the Bicolano people.
Her participation served as a reminder that libraries are more than just repositories of booksโthey are living spaces that keep stories, languages, and cultural memories alive for future generations.
The Camarines Norte Provincial Library takes pride in being part of this meaningful celebration of heritage, culture, and language preservation, continuously promoting the value of storytelling as a bridge that connects communities, generations, and identities.
