PUBLIC HEALTH UNIT ADVISORY
Redtide Alert!
The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) has reported that shellfish collected from Dumanquillas Bay in Zamboanga del Sur, Tantanang Bay in Zamboanga Sibugay, Matarinao Bay in Eastern Samar, the coastal waters of Bolinao and Anda in Pangasinan, and the coastal waters of Daram, Samar remain positive for Paralytic Shellfish Poison (PSP) or “red tide toxin” beyond the regulatory limit as of May 12, 2026.
BFAR advises the public not to harvest, sell, buy, or consume shellfish and alamang gathered from the affected areas due to the presence of red tide toxin.
Fish, squid, shrimp, and crabs are still safe for consumption provided they are fresh, washed thoroughly, and internal organs such as gills and intestines are removed before cooking.
Please stay informed and prioritize everyone’s safety. Share this advisory to help spread awareness in coastal communities.
