The dengue virus belongs to the Flaviviridae family and the Flavivirus genus. There are four unique serotypes: DENV-1, DENV-2, DENV-3, and DENV-4. This virus is mainly spread by Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes, which are common in tropical and subtropical areas.

Symptoms of the disease can range from mild fever, severe headaches, muscle and joint pain, rash, and eye pain, to more severe conditions like Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) and Dengue Shock Syndrome (DSS).
