PNP SAFELY RESCUES TEEN, ARRESTS FATHER IN PANGASINAN HOSTAGE INCIDENT

Police officers safely rescued an 18-year-old woman and arrested her father following a police intervention in Bugallon, Pangasinan on Monday afternoon, August 24, 2026.

The incident began after the Bugallon Municipal Police Station received a distress call. Responding officers, later reinforced by personnel from the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office and its tactical team, found the suspect armed with a bolo and the victim inside the residence.

Police negotiators first worked to de-escalate the situation and were able to persuade the suspect to put down the weapon. When the situation became unsafe again and the victim was placed at further risk, police personnel carried out a coordinated intervention that resulted in the suspect being safely restrained and the victim being immediately brought to safety.
The rescued woman was provided medical attention and appropriate psychological support, while the arrested suspect remains in police custody as authorities proceed with the filing of appropriate charges.

Chief PNP Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. commended the responding personnel for keeping the victim’s safety at the center of the operation while exercising restraint and sound judgment throughout the incident.

β€œOur officers did what they were trained to do: they assessed the danger, tried to calm the situation, and stepped in when necessary. Ang mahalaga, ligtas ang biktima at naibalik ang kontrol sa sitwasyon,” PGen Nartatez said.

COURT-WANTED PASSENGER ARRESTED AT NAIA BEFORE FLIGHT TO BANGKOK

A joint airport security and law enforcement effort resulted in the arrest of a 60-year-old Filipino passenger wanted by the court, following routine immigration screening at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 on August 26, 2026.

The passenger was identified through coordination among the Bureau of Immigration, NAIA Police Station 3, and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group Regional Field Unit–National Capital Region (CIDG RFU-NCR), which facilitated the implementation of an alias warrant of arrest before his intended departure for Bangkok.

Based on court records, the warrant was issued in connection with an alleged violation of Republic Act No. 7610, or the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act, in relation to r**e. The warrant carries no recommended bail.

PNP Chief Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. said the arrest reflects the importance of close coordination among agencies, particularly in securing major transport hubs and preventing wanted persons from evading lawful court processes.

β€œOur job is to act when the law requires us to act. In this case, our personnel and partner agencies did exactly thatβ€”properly, lawfully, and without unnecessary delay. We will continue to do the same wherever the circumstances call for it,” PGen Nartatez said.

SURRENDER OF BIFF MEMBER, RPG TURNOVER BOOST SECURITY EFFORTS IN NORTH COTABATO

Government security forces recorded another development in their continuing efforts to reduce the presence of illegal fi****ms and armed threats in North Cotabato following the voluntary surrender of a reported member of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters–Bungos Faction (BIFF-BF) and the turnover of an RPG launcher and am******on on August 25, 2026.

The individual, known only by the alias β€œDats,” surrendered during a coordinated police operation at the Cotabato Police Provincial Office compound in Kidapawan City. He was subsequently placed under the custody of the PNP Intelligence Group for proper documentation and debriefing.

Authorities also received one rocket-propelled gr***de (RPG) launcher and one RPG anti-tank cartridge, which were turned over to the appropriate police personnel for assessment and safe disposition.

Chief, PNP Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. said the PNP will continue to combine intelligence work, coordination, and peaceful engagement in addressing security concerns in communities.

β€œWe take every surrender seriously because it can mean one less armed threat in our communities. At the same time, we will continue our intelligence operations against those who choose to keep weapons for unlawful purposes. Ang direksyon natin ay malinaw: protect the people and help keep our communities peaceful,” PGen Nartatez said.

The operation was carried out through the coordinated efforts of personnel from the PNP Intelligence Group, Police Regional Office 12, Cotabato Police Provincial Office, regional intelligence units, and other concerned police elements.

The development is part of the PNP’s Focused Agenda, particularly Enhanced Managing Police Operations (EMPO), which promotes coordinated, intelligence-led, and responsive police action to address threats and maintain peace and security.

Initial information received by the AVSEGROUP revealed that the 46-year-old male suspect, who is facing a case for Qualified R**e with no bail recommended, was on his way to the airport to fetch a relative. Upon confirmation of his identity, he was immediately arrested by the Tacloban City Police Office (TCPO).

AVSEGROUP Director PBGEN Dionisio Bartolome Jr. commended the successful operation, saying, β€œThe success of this operation reflects the determination and commitment of our PNP to bring those who are responsible to justice.”

BFP PERSONNEL ARRESTED OVER ALLEGED β€œSLOT-FOR-SALE” DEAL

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has arrested a Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) personnel in Pampanga in connection with an alleged scheme involving the offer of a recruitment slot to an aspiring BFP applicant, reinforcing the PNP’s commitment to protecting the integrity of government recruitment processes.

The suspect, a female BFP personnel of legal age, was arrested on August 24, 2026, in a parking area of a food establishment in Barangay Maimpis, San Fernando City, Pampanga. The operation was carried out by personnel of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Zambales and Pampanga Provincial Field Units, the Regional Special Operations Group of Police Regional Office 3, San Fernando City Police Station, and BFP Region 3.

The operation stemmed from a complaint involving an aspiring BFP applicant who was allegedly offered a recruitment slot in exchange for payment. The arrest and subsequent investigation are being undertaken in accordance with established procedures, with the rights of all parties respected.

Chief PNP Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. said the PNP will continue to support efforts that keep government recruitment fair, transparent, and free from practices that could undermine public confidence.

TWO REBELS SURRENDER IN LEYTE, EASTERN SAMAR; .38 REVOLVER TURNED OVER

The Philippine National Police, under the command of PNP Chief PGEN Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., strengthened its internal security efforts as two members of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) voluntarily surrendered in separate areas of Eastern Visayas on August 26, 2026.

In Leyte, personnel of the 1st Leyte Provincial Mobile Force Company (1st LPMFC), in coordination with the Baybay City Police Station (CPS) and Provincial Intelligence Unit 8–Leyte Police Provincial Office (PIU8-LPPO), facilitated the surrender of alias β€œNilo,” a 57-year-old Filipino male farmer and resident of Mahaplag, Leyte. He was a former member of IC-LEVOX of the Eastern Visayas Regional Party Committee (EVRPC).

In Eastern Samar, elements of the 1st Eastern Samar Provincial Mobile Force Company (1st ESPMC), together with the Provincial Intelligence Unit of the Eastern Samar Police Provincial Office (PIU-ESPPO), assisted the surrender of alias β€œJenna,” a 29-year-old Filipino female and resident of Oras, Eastern Samar. She was a former Yunit Militia member of FC-15, Sub-Regional Committee (SRC), ARCTIC, EVRPC, under the leadership of alias β€œKa-Wayon.”

During her surrender, alias β€œJenna” turned over one caliber .38 revolver with no markings, a defaced serial number, and no am******on. The fi***rm was secured by the police for proper documentation and disposition.

Both surrenderers are under the custody of their respective police units for documentation, proper disposition, and possible enrollment in the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP), which provides assistance to former rebels who choose to return to the fold of the law.

β€œThese voluntary surrenders show that our efforts to address armed threats must be matched by opportunities for individuals to leave the conflict behind. We will remain firm in protecting communities while supporting those who genuinely choose to return to peaceful and lawful lives,” PGEN Nartatez said.

β€œMay pagkakataon pa para sa mga nais nang talikuran ang armadong pakikibaka at magsimulang muli. Hinihikayat natin silang piliin ang kapayapaan at makipagtulungan sa pamahalaan para sa mas maayos na kinabukasan,” he added.

The accomplishments also support the PNP Focused Agenda, a transformation framework designed to make police service more responsive and community-centered.
