HEALTH ADVISORY: ASHFALL PRECAUTIONS

Following the eruption of Mayon Volcano, ashfall has been reported in nearby areas. Volcanic ash may look harmless, but it can cause respiratory problems, eye irritation, and other health concerns; especially for infants, elderly, pregnant women, and those with pre-existing conditions.

Please take the following precautions:

• Stay indoors as much as possible and keep doors/windows closed
• Wear a mask (N95 or equivalent). If unavailable, use a damp cloth over your nose and mouth
• Protect your eyes: use goggles or eyeglasses (avoid contact lenses)
• Cover exposed skin when going outside
• Avoid outdoor activities and unnecessary travel

For families with babies and children:
• Keep them indoors at all times
• Ensure feeding items and milk are protected from ash
• Monitor for coughing, difficulty breathing, or unusual weakness

Food & Water Safety:
• Keep food and drinking water covered
• Wash fruits and vegetables thoroughly before use
• Do not consume food exposed to ash

Cleaning Reminder:
• Use damp cloths when cleaning ash. Do not sweep or blow it away
• Clear ash from roofs/gutters carefully to prevent buildup

Seek medical attention immediately if you experience:
• Difficulty breathing or persistent coughing
• Chest pain or tightness
• Severe eye irritation
