The Municipality of Datu Paglas is one of the Municipalities of the Province of Maguindanao belonging to the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. It is bounded on the south-western part by the Municipality of Buluan of the Province of Maguindanao and on its Northern side thereof by the Municipality of Tulunan from the Province of Cotabato. It is also geographically located in the north-western po
rtion of the Municipality of Columbio in the Province of Sultan Kudarat. Columbio considered the mother municipality of Datu Paglas because it is where it was carved in its creation. There were only thirteen political subdivisions when the municipality of Datu Paglas was created. However, today it has 23 officially recorded political subdivisions. The said political subdivisions (Barangays) have an aggregate total land area of 26, 950 hectares. The barangays of Alip and Makat have the highest share from total land area of 10.16% and 21.34% respectively. While barangays with the least percent share from total land area are Bulod, Napok, and Lomoyon. From the 23 barangays, boundary barangays are Makat(eastern part), Elbebe & Bunawan(North Eastern part), Bulod(North Western part), Damawato(Northern part), Palao sa Buto(Western part). The municipality’s general terrain character is basically flat with an elevation of 0 - 3 meters above sea level and spans over a plain area with a clay-loam land that has a form of a bird locally called “PUGO” and on the east and north-east thereof is the land-mark mountain range of Mt. Below, at the foot, thereof is the Alep River which is one of the principal sources of water of the highlander’s population as well as of the Muslim residents therein.
