The fire started at about 9:30 a.m. on the mall’s third floor, burned for nearly 32 hours, and killed 38 people, 37 SSI employees and one NCCC employee, as rescuers struggled against extreme heat and thick smoke.
Official findings pointed to an electrical short circuit or high-temperature electrical discharge, while investigators also found critical safety gaps: fire-exit enclosures with openings that let smoke in, a defective SSI alarm that was not linked to the mall system, and sprinkler valves on the third and fourth floors that were closed.
In 2018, the DILG-led task force submitted its report to the DOJ and recommended criminal and administrative cases against mall, BFP, city building, and PEZA personnel, underscoring the lesson that code-compliant exits, integrated alarms, working suppression systems, and strict inspections are not optional

Stratos Alarm System is looking for an ECE / Computer Engineer / Electronics Technician to join our Technical Department.

We are looking for someone with knowledge in FDAS, CCTV/security systems, system configuration, networking, and technical troubleshooting. The ideal candidate must be willing to learn, assist in site support, and work with the technical team in installation, maintenance, configuration, and troubleshooting tasks.

Position: ECE / Computer Engineer / Electronics Technician
Department: Technical Department

Qualifications:

• Graduate of Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering,
• Electronics Technology, or any related technical course
• With knowledge in FDAS installation, testing, configuration, and maintenance
• Basic knowledge in CCTV, networking, servers, computers, and other electronic devices
• Can troubleshoot hardware, software, and connectivity issues
• Willing to learn, train, and work with the technical team
• Driving skill is an advantage

Responsibilities:

• Assist in FDAS configuration, testing, and troubleshooting
• Support CCTV, network, server, computer, and other technical system concerns
• Conduct site checking, preventive maintenance, and technical support
• Assist in installation, repair, and technical documentation
• Coordinate with the team for project implementation and client support
