RIISA Project stands for Resilience and Inclusion through Investment for Sustainable Agrikultura.

The project acronym RIISA stands for Resilience and Inclusion through Investment for Sustainable Agrikultura (RIISA). This project aims to support inclusive economic opportunities in the poor, rural areas of Mindanao, in the Philippines. Aligned with the Government of the Philippines’ post-coronavirus (COVID-19) recovery response, this project works to increase the productivity of cacao farms and

enterprises, particularly those led by women, while promoting gender equality and resiliency in communities vulnerable to conflict and climate change.

For 41 years, the Kadayawan Festival has been a celebration of gratitude, culture, and abundance—honoring Davao's rich heritage, diverse Indigenous communities, and the blessings of a bountiful harvest.

Among the treasures that thrive in our region is . Cacao reflects the hard work of our farmers, the richness of our land, and the growing legacy of Davao as the Chocolate Capital of the Philippines. Every cacao pod harvested tells a story of resilience, sustainability, and the communities that continue to cultivate a sweeter future.

This Kadayawan, let us celebrate not only the beauty of our traditions but also the farmers and agricultural champions who make every harvest possible.

💡 𝗖𝗮𝗰𝗮𝗼 𝗙𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗶𝗽 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗮𝘆

Ang himsog nga cacao nagsugod sa himsog nga yuta. Karong Lunes, atong tun-an kung unsaon paghimo sa Fish Amino Acid (FAA) — usa ka natural nga farm input nga gihimo gikan sa isda nga makatabang sa paghatag og sustansya alang sa mas kusog ug produktibong pagtubo sa cacao.

Pinaagi sa paggamit sa mga anaa nga materyales sa palibot, mahimo natong mapuslanong input sa uma, samtang gipalig-on ang regeneratibong pagpananom ug pag-atiman sa kahimsog sa yuta.

I-save na kining yano nga proseso mahimong makatabang sa imong cacao farm. Magtinabangay kita sa pagpalambo sa malungtarong cacao production, sugod sa yuta hangtod sa bunga.

𝗛𝗮𝗽𝗽𝘆 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗗𝗮𝘆!

Young people are powerful drivers of change in building a more sustainable and inclusive future for cacao farming.

Through Gendered Environmental, Social, and Governance (G-ESG) practices, cacao farmers and cooperatives can promote farming that is eco-friendly, fair, and inclusive. This includes adopting sustainable practices, creating opportunities for women, youth, and Indigenous Peoples, and strengthening transparent and participatory leadership.

On this 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱'𝘀 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗣𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘀, we honor the invaluable knowledge, resilience, and stewardship of Indigenous communities in protecting our natural resources and shaping a more sustainable future.

In Paquibato, Indigenous farming communities continue to demonstrate the importance of sustainable agriculture through their dedication to cacao production and regenerative farming practices. Through the support of Kennemer Eco Solutions and the RIISA Project, smallholder farmers are able to diversify their farms with cacao, fruit, and forest trees—strengthening carbon sequestration while creating additional sources of livelihood.

Farmers are also supported with environmentally sustainable inputs such as biofertilizers, along with training, extension services, micro-financing, and community livelihood programs that help strengthen their skills and resilience. Through their participation in carbon trading initiatives with farmer cooperatives, they are able to explore additional income opportunities while contributing to climate action and environmental sustainability.

This day celebrates Indigenous farmers whose deep connection to the land and commitment to sustainable practices continue to nurture communities, protect ecosystems, and inspire a more resilient future.

The Gendered Environment, Social, and Governance (G-ESG) Principles help build a cacao farming system that is sustainable, inclusive, and resilient. By applying G-ESG, cacao farmers can improve their practices while creating better opportunities for everyone in the farming community.

G-ESG promotes cacao farming that is:
🌱 𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁— protecting soil health, conserving water, and caring for trees and biodiversity to support long-term cacao production.

🤝 𝗙𝗮𝗶𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 — ensuring women, men, youth, and Indigenous farmers have equal access to land, tools, training, resources, and markets.

🌿 𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗹-𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗱 — encouraging shared decision-making, transparent processes, and fair rules within farming families and cooperatives.

When everyone has a voice and equal opportunities to participate, cacao communities become stronger. Through G-ESG, farmers can work together to nurture healthier farms, improve livelihoods, and create a more sustainable future for cacao.

Ayaw kini pasagdi nga magpabilin sa kahoy o mahulog ra sa yuta, kay mahimo kining tinubdan sa padayon nga pagkatap sa mga peste ug sakit.

Human sa pag-ani, ilubong o gub-a ang mga apektadong bunga aron mapugngan ang pagbalik sa impeksyon. Pinaagi niining yano apan epektibong pamaagi, mas mapreserbar ang kahimsog sa imong kakawan ug mas mapataas ang kalidad ug ani sa uma.

This month brought new learnings, meaningful experiences, and valuable insights into 𝗖𝗮𝗰𝗮𝗼 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗙𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀 (𝗖𝗥𝗙𝗦).From exploring regenerative farming practices that restore soil health and strengthen biodiversity to understanding how sustainable cacao production benefits both farmers and the environment, July reminded us that every step toward regenerative agriculture creates a lasting impact for people and the planet. 🌱

As we move forward, may we continue to nurture the land, learn from nature, and grow together toward a more sustainable future.
