On December 12, 2025, the Community Extension Service (CES) Office of Jose Maria College Foundation, Inc. (JMCFI) successfully carried out a Community Extension Program that brought not only essential healthcare but also joy and hope to the Indigenous People (IP) families of Sitio Patag, Datu Salumay, Marilog District, Davao City.
The program was made possible through the strong collaboration of academic programs, partner institutions, and generous organizations committed to uplifting the lives of the community.
The initiative saw active participation from the College of Medicine and the College of Allied Health Sciencesโthrough the SINAG Medical Mission, JMCFI College of Medicine's flagship Community Extension programโtogether with the College of Allied Health Sciences Education, including BS Nursing, BS Medical Laboratory Science, and BS Biology.
The Philippine Pharmacists Association (PPhA) extended its support by donating Wellness Kits to the Marilog Indigenous Peoples who came for medical consultations and health checkups.
The outreach effort was further strengthened by the involvement of the College of Arts and Sciences Education programs, particularly BS Psychology and BS Social Work, ensuring holistic care that addressed both physical health and psychosocial well-being.
In addition, Student Formation classes under the Center for Spirituality and Student Formation contributed thoughtfully prepared food packs for the IP families, demonstrating the heart of service that JMCFI instills in its students.
The UniPhil, an organization funded and fully supported by Pastor Apollo C. Quiboloy, Founding President of JMCFI, was also a prime mover of the initiative giving gift packs for families in the community. Generous support also came from Chowking (Buhangin Airport branch), which donated 50 food packs.
Their contributions reinforced the mission of bringing both practical aid and heartfelt encouragement to the adopted community.
The program was further enhanced by the partnership with the Armed Forces of the Philippines Logistics Command Elementary School, which organized engaging games and prizes for the children. Principal Reichelle Pangan supported the initiative, by sending a team led by Teacher Lilibeth Delana, which ensured that the children were entertained with storytelling and interactive activities, creating a vibrant and joyful atmosphere that left lasting smiles on their faces.
Given Sitio Patagโs remote location, nearly a three-hour journey from JMCFI, logistical support was critical. Alongside the fully air-conditioned JMCFI bus and several faculty and student vehicles, partner stakeholdersโNF7 (Naval Forces Mindanao), NIFEM (Naval Installation Facilities Eastern Mindanao), and NFEM (Naval Forces Eastern Mindanao)โprovided a coaster, 6x6 Army truck, and FB3 for safe transport.
Drivers, escorts, and Barangay Kagawad Flora Ballo helped ensure community members could access medical check-ups and receive food packs and lomi. DOH Nurse Ricmar Gil coordinated with the Patag Elementary School principal to secure the venue and properly notify the community.
The SMNI News Team documented the event, capturing not only its most inspiring moments but also the lived stories and experiences of the Indigenous Peoples community. Alongside them, The JMarian student publication team provided comprehensive coverage of the collaboration and student involvement, giving voice to the IP community and highlighting the institutionโs deep and sustained commitment to service and social responsibility.
Present to support the program were College of Medicine Dean Dr. Nestor Arce, Jr. and Dr. Raymond G. Libongcogon, Associate Vice President for Health Sciences, underscoring the programโs institutional importance. Behind the scenes, CES Director Junalyn I. Atinen and her team meticulously coordinated all preparations, ensuring the gift-giving and joint medical mission flowed seamlessly.
This successful initiative reflects JMCFIโs strong commitment to service, collaboration, and holistic care, while demonstrating the power of teamwork among students, faculty, and partner organizations.
Beyond health and material support, the program brought joy, encouragement, and renewed hope to the Sitio Patag community, leaving a lasting imprint of compassion and solidarity.
