The UP Mindanao Technology Transfer and Business Development Office (TTBDO) invites you to participate in the Food Sensory Survey of the Squid Cube Technology!

Developed through value-added innovation, the Squid Cube Technology offers an affordable, convenient, and seafood-rich umami seasoning for various food applications. By utilizing surplus dried squid sourced directly from local fisherfolk and fishing communities, this technology transforms underutilized resources into a high-value food product while supporting local livelihoods.

Who can join?
✅ 18–59 years old
✅ UP Mindanao students, faculty, and staff
✅ No allergies or dietary restrictions to seafood
✅ No alcohol, smoking, or spicy food one (1) hour before the test

𝗧𝗧𝗕𝗗𝗢 𝗠𝗶𝗱-𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴

July 29-30, 2026 | The UP Mindanao Technology Transfer and Business Development Office (TTBDO) conducted its two-day Mid-Year Assessment and Planning to assess our office's current direction, strengthen strategic alignment, and identify priorities for the remainder of 2026.

The office focused on identifying our office's focus areas, key challenges, and task alignment to ensure that roles and responsibilities remain consistent with our mandate. It also included validating and updating our SWOT analysis, identifying strategic priorities, reviewing budget utilization and procurement status, and developing action plans to guide the implementation of our programs and initiatives for the years to come.

As we move forward, UPMin TTBDO continues to strengthen our strategic direction, enhance our operations, and reinforce our commitment to delivering responsive technology transfer, innovation, and business development services to university and stakeholders.

𝗨𝗦𝗠–𝗞𝗮𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗕𝗦 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟬-𝗛𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽

The UPMin TTBDO proudly recognizes the successful completion of the 200-hour internship of the third batch of BS Chemistry students from the USM Kabacan at the Lactic Acid Fermentation and Purification Laboratory.

During their internship, the students developed an Operations Manual for the laboratory's services and gained hands-on experience in operating selected laboratory equipment, learning their functions, proper handling, and applications in laboratory processes.

The Lactic Acid Fermentation and Purification Laboratory continues to welcome internship and OJT partnerships with higher education institutions interested in providing students with meaningful laboratory training, research experience, and exposure to real-world laboratory operations.

𝗦𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗱 𝗕𝗼𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝘂𝗯𝗲𝘀 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁 𝗣𝗶𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗗𝗲𝗺𝗼

July 24, 2026 | UP Mindanao hosted the Product Presentation, Pitch, and Demo of the Squid Bouillon Cube, an innovative food product developed by Ms. Ma. Lyn C. Torres, MSc.

The morning session featured Ms. Torres as she introduced the Squid Bouillon Cube—a product made from dried squid and transformed into a flavorful, umami-rich cube. She discussed the product's technical highlights, development process, unique value proposition, target market, commercial potential, and possible applications, showcasing its value as an innovative food technology. The session also included a food sensory evaluation, where attendees, including UP Mindanao personnel, assessed the product's taste, aroma, texture, and overall acceptability, providing valuable feedback for its further development.

In the afternoon, a product demonstration of the Squid Bouillon Cube was conducted, where Ms. Torres, together with the TTBDO Bakery Pilot Plant Team, showcased the product's preparation process, formulation, processing techniques, packaging considerations, and recommended production practices. The demonstration provided with a better understanding of the technology and production process behind the product.

𝟯-𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗜𝗠𝗣𝗔𝗖𝗧-𝗡𝗫𝗧 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁

July 14-16, 2026 | UPMin TTBDO successfully completed the three-day IMPACT-NXT institutional assessment. The assessment was led by Ms. Sherina Krystel Peña, Ms. May Lilian Maravilles, and Mr. Michael Jorge Peralta, together with Ms. Lyza Garcia (project staff from DLSU IMPACT-NXT) and observers from DOST-PCIEERD and DOST XI.

This assessment helped identify UP Mindanao’s institutional strengths and gaps in commercializing government-funded technologies.

Armed with these insights, TTBDO will use what we learned to strengthen our efforts in translating university technologies into real solutions for the community.

𝗙𝗜𝗡𝗔𝗟 𝗣𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗢𝗙 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗗𝗘𝗧𝗔𝗜𝗟𝗘𝗗 𝗠𝗔𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗥 𝗣𝗟𝗔𝗡

July 8, 2026 | Presented the Final Master Development Plan for the proposed UP Mindanao Knowledge, Innovation, Science, and Technology (KIST) Park at the UP Mindanao Campus, Mintal, Davao City.

The event was attended by UP System President Hon. Angelo A. Jimenez, UP Mindanao Chancellor Dr. Lyre Anni E. Murao, the UPMin TTBDO as the end-user, and UPMin CPDO, Palafox, along with the Davao City Planning and Development Office, DENR-EMB XI, Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA), and other key stakeholders.

The overall aspect of the KIST Park was presented, highlighting its development strategies, infrastructure plans, and environmental considerations. The session focused on a technical discussion regarding the implementation, long-term viability, and specific operational design of how the KIST Park will run. This presentation was also vital for gaining crucial technical insights and strategic inputs from the UP System President, the UP Mindanao Chancellor, and other key stakeholders, ensuring that critical perspectives were meticulously considered for its actual implementation.

With this final presentation, the university is moving closer to realizing its vision of a world-class innovation ecosystem in Mindanao, driving advanced research, high-tech industries, and long-term economic growth for Mindanao.

𝗧𝘄𝗼-𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗛𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀-𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴: 𝗨𝗣 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗼 𝗧𝗧𝗕𝗗𝗢 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗿𝗮𝗳𝘁 𝗕𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗖𝗼.

July 2-3, 2026 | The UP Mindanao TTBDO, represented by Jasmin Nosotros, underwent a Hands-on Training on Sourdough and Panettone Bread Production, in collaboration with Craft Breads and Pastries (CBP).

The session, led by trainers Vanessa Pacheco, Roberto Pacheco, and Juvelyn Taming, focused on demonstrating CBP’s standard baking methods of their products. This activity marks the next step in the continuing collaboration between both parties, aiming to provide a deeper understanding of the product characteristics and actual bakery operations to effectively improve the bread's shelf life while retaining its signature quality.

𝗕𝗦𝗙𝗧 𝗕𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗶𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗙𝗮𝗶𝗿

June 30, 2026 | The Department of Food Science and Chemistry (DFSC) recently held its BS Food Technology - Best Thesis Competition and Research Innovation Fair.

Our Chief Researcher, Dr. Melvin S. Pasaporte, served as one of the panelists for the event, where he got to see firsthand the research and innovative food products developed by the BS Food Technology students. We are glad to have been part of evaluating and supporting the students' research journey.

Through initiatives like this, the office continues to actively engage in advancing research and development and supporting the next generation of food technologists.
