The National Meat Inspection Service โ€“ Regional Technical Operations Center XI (NMIS RTOC XI) continued to advance its commitment to ensuring safe, wholesome, and quality meat for consumers through a series of technical assistance missions, infrastructure assessments, and food safety capability-building activities conducted across the Davao Region.

NMIS RTOC XI provided comprehensive technical assistance and engineering recommendations to support the improvement and establishment of meat processing and slaughtering facilities in both the public and private sectors. Technical assessments were conducted for cold storage warehouses and meat depot centers in Davao City, Mati City, and Municipality of Sta. Cruz of Davao del Sur, where engineering teams evaluated existing facility layouts, processing workflows, sanitation systems, and equipment requirements.

These initiatives reinforce the agency's continuing support to local government units in modernizing meat establishments and enhancing public health protection.

The National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) Regional Technical Operations Center XI witnessed the proper disposal of 19,740.30 kilograms of mishandled frozen chicken wings identified as unfit for human consumption on July 27, 2026 in Davao City.

As part of its mandate to ensure food safety and uphold meat inspection regulations, the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) Regional Technical Operations Center XI conducted a strike operation in Digos City on July 1, 2026, following a report of a flooding incident affecting the facility.

During the inspection, the enforcement team found three dead food animals inside the holding pensโ€”two carabaos from Mlang, Cotabato, and one cattle from Digos City. An investigation determined that the animals had been flooded (referred to forcibly injecting with excessive amounts of water shortly before slaughter), which is an illegal and inhumane practice. Such animals were declared unfit for human consumption. The carcasses were immediately condemned and disposed of in accordance with established meat inspection and environmental regulations.

To continuously strengthen food safety standards and uphold public health, the National Meat Inspection Service Regional Technical Operation Center XI (NMIS RTOC XI) recently rolled out a series of targeted food safety seminars for local meat handlers in Davao City, Digos City, and the Municipality of Malalag, Davao Del Sur.

The orientation equipped local vendors, butcher shop operators, and facility personnel with essential knowledge on food safety, quality assurance and control, and hazard prevention, emphasizing proper hygiene, safe meat handling, adherence to quality standards, and the identification and control of potential physical, biological, and chemical hazards throughout the meat supply chain.
