WRITTEN EXPLANATION
The poster is a visual representation of the aspirations of the Pag-asa Youth Association of the Philippines (PYAP) and the Out-of-School Youth (OSY) sector. Every element works together to illustrate how empowered leadership, good governance, and sustainable development create opportunities for young people to rise above challenges and become active contributors to nation-building. Rather than simply depicting youth, the artwork tells the story of transformationโfrom vulnerability to empowerment, from exclusion to participation, and from dreams to achievement.
At the center of the poster is a large circular seal wrapped in a thick rope, making it the heart of the composition. The rope symbolizes unity, resilience, and interconnectedness. Just as individual strands become stronger when woven together, young people become more capable when united under a common purpose. It also reflects the institutional strength of PYAP, emphasizing that leadership is built through collective effort rather than individual success. This directly relates to the theme of institutionalizing empowered leadership, where strong institutions are formed through cooperation, accountability, and solidarity.
Inside the seal are several important symbols representing the pillars of development.
The gavel signifies leadership, justice, governance, and responsible decision-making. It reminds viewers that true leaders govern with fairness, integrity, and accountability. Leadership is not about authority alone but about serving communities and making decisions that promote the common good. Crossed beneath it is a key, symbolizing opportunity, access, and empowerment. The key represents how education, skills training, and government support unlock doors for Out-of-School Youth, allowing them to participate fully in society. It reflects PYAP's mission of opening pathways toward personal growth and meaningful participation in nation-building.
At the bottom of the seal is an open book, representing education, lifelong learning, and knowledge. Although the organization serves Out-of-School Youth, the poster emphasizes that learning never stops. Formal education is only one path; skills development, leadership training, and community learning continue to shape responsible citizens.
Beside the book are gears, symbolizing technical skills, innovation, productivity, and livelihood. These represent the practical competencies that enable young people to become employable, entrepreneurial, and economically productive. Development is achieved not only through education but also through the acquisition of relevant skills that prepare youth for the modern workforce.

His salakot (traditional Filipino hat) represents Filipino identity, humility, hard work, and cultural heritage, emphasizing that leadership remains grounded in the nation's values.

At the bottom of the artwork flows the Philippine flag, proudly carrying the words "PYAP-AKO" and "BE ONE OF US." The Philippine flag symbolizes patriotism, national identity, and service to the Filipino people. The phrase "PYAP-AKO" expresses pride in belonging to an organization dedicated to youth empowerment, while "BE ONE OF US" serves as an invitation for more Out-of-School Youth to become part of a movement that promotes leadership, volunteerism, and personal growth.
Finally, the bright sun emerging from the lower left corner echoes the sun on the Philippine flag. It represents optimism, freedom, hope, and the beginning of a new chapter. It reminds every Out-of-School Youth that despite life's obstacles, opportunities remain available through determination, supportive institutions, and empowered leadership.
Overall, the poster perfectly reflects the theme "Institutionalizing Empowered Leadership, Strengthening Governance & Advancing Development Pathways." Every symbol contributes to a unified message: leadership begins by empowering individuals; governance becomes stronger when youth actively participate; and development is achieved through education, skills, unity, innovation, environmental stewardship, and patriotism.
