[๐ฅ๐๐๐] The University of Southeastern Philippines Tagum-Mabini Campus (USeP TMC), Tagum Unit, officially opened the Academic Year 2026โ2027 with the vibrant kickoff of LUPAD 2026. This annual freshmen welcoming celebration has become a cherished tradition since its inception in 2023. More than just a welcome event, LUPAD serves as the first gateway for newly enrolled Agilas to experience the University's culture of excellence, service, and student engagement.
The Physical Education and Cultural Center (PECC) came alive as students from the College of Teacher Education and Technology (CTET) and the College of Engineering - Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (CoE-DABE) gathered to celebrate. To add color and excitement to the event, the Department Local Councils showcased interactive booths, introducing freshmen to the vibrant student organizations, programs, and opportunities that await them throughout their university journey.
Present during the opening ceremony were USeP Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Jeneifer C. Nueva, USeP Vice President for Research, Development and Extension Dr. Roger C. Montepio, USeP Tagum-Mabini Campus Chancellor Dr. Shirley S. Villanueva, CTET Dean Dr. Mildin J. Retutas, CoE-DABE Program Head Engr. Ruel F. Tuyogon, faculty members, non-teaching personnel, and students representing the units' various academic programs.
The celebration began with the grand entrance of the freshmen, who proudly represented their respective programs with spirited yells, synchronized cheers, and energetic performances. Their enthusiasm, confidence, and school pride instantly transformed the venue into a lively display of youthful energy, marking the start of a new academic chapter filled with aspirations and possibilities.
In her welcome message, Dr. Nueva emphasized that LUPAD is more than a ceremonial gatheringโit is the University's way of introducing new students to the people, opportunities, services, and values that define the USeP community.
"Today's gathering is more than a welcome ceremony. LUPAD 2026 marks the beginning of another meaningful academic year and introduces our new students to the people. Later, you will be introduced to them. This afternoon, there will be a series of talks to introduce you and let you know things about the University, not just the people, but also the opportunities, the services, and the values that define USeP."
She further encouraged the freshmen to embrace every opportunity for growth, saying,
"Let every challenge strengthen your wings, every lesson sharpen your mind, and every experience prepare you to become the kind of graduate who brings honor not only to USeP, but also to your family and community."
Delivering her words of encouragement, Chancellor Villanueva reassured the freshmen that they would never walk their university journey alone.
"Starting college is exciting, but it can also feel overwhelming. New faces, unfamiliar places, and higher expectations are all part of the journey. If you ever feel uncertain, remember that you are not expected to figure everything out on your own. Your professors, our staff, your student leaders, and even your seniors are here to support you. Never hesitate to ask questions, seek guidance, and make connections. University life becomes more meaningful when we learn and grow together."
Drawing inspiration from the event's name, she reminded students that every dream begins with the courage to soar.
"As the name LUPAD suggests, every journey begins with the courage to take flight. Some of you are just opening your wings, while others are continuing to soar. Wherever you are in your journey, remember that USeP will always be here to guide, challenge, and support you as you pursue your goals."
The celebration will continue on July 28, 2026, with the General Assembly and Oath-Taking Ceremony for the newly elected student leaders of Tagum Student Council and Department Local Councils. This will be followed by Campus Clubbing, where freshmen can explore student organizations and discover opportunities for leadership, service, and personal development beyond the classroom.
LUPAD 2026 reinforces the University's commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education). It fosters an inclusive and supportive learning environment that promotes student success, lifelong learning, and holistic development. Additionally, it aligns with SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) by strengthening participatory student governance and encouraging active citizenship through leadership engagement and campus involvement.
As another generation of Agilas prepares to take flight, LUPAD 2026 represents more than just the beginning of an academic year, it marks the start of countless dreams. With knowledge as their guide, values as their foundation, and the support of the USeP community, these freshmen embark on a journey that will shape not only their future careers but also their lifelong commitment to excellence, leadership, and service to the nation.
