๐๐ก ๐ฃ๐๐ข๐ง๐ข๐ฆ | The Eastern Mindanao Command participated in the opening of the month-long observance of International Humanitarian Law Month, bearing the theme, โPinalakas na Ugnayan at Pagkakaisa sa Pagsulong ng IHL,โ through a simultaneous flag-raising ceremony held at Naval Station Felix Apolinario, Panacan, Davao City, on August 3.
Lt. Col. Ramon M. Angelio II JAGS, Law on Armed Conflict Action Officer, led the troops in reaffirming their commitment to upholding the core principles of International Humanitarian Law and ensuring its consistent observance in all military operations.
Brig. Gen. Charlie L. Tiu Jr. PAF, Deputy Commander of EastMinCom, read the message of Gen. Antonio G. Nafarrete PA, Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
In his message, Gen. Nafarrete emphasized that the observance serves as a timely reminder for every member of the Armed Forces to deepen their understanding of IHL and uphold its principles in the conduct of military operations, reflecting the AFPโs commitment to professionalism, discipline, and respect for human dignity.
โThis month allows us to reflect on, reaffirm, and renew our commitment to the principles that protect the most vulnerable among us. International Humanitarian Law is not an abstract legal code; it is a practical expression of our shared humanity. Its core principlesโdistinction, proportionality, necessity, and humane treatmentโguide our actions in complex and often dangerous environments,โ Gen. Nafarrete said.
He further underscored that adherence to IHL is not merely a legal obligation but a moral responsibility that defines the character of every soldier.
โI call on every member of the Armed Forces to carry these commitments into daily practice. Let us be leaders not only in security but in humanity, demonstrating through our actions that force, when necessary, is guided by law and conscience,โ Gen. Nafarrete added.
The observance reaffirms EastMinComโs steadfast commitment to promoting a culture of respect for IHL, strengthening ethical leadership within its ranks, and ensuring that all military operations are carried out in accordance with the rule of law and the AFP Core Values of Honor, Service, and Patriotism.
