๐‘ป๐’“๐’‚๐’ƒ๐’‚๐’‰๐’ ๐‘จ๐’ˆ๐’‚๐’…, in line with the directive of DOLE Secretary Francisco Tolentino to promote sustainable livelihoods and empower beneficiaries toward self-reliance, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), through its livelihood focal, Ms. Eizarina Roselle G. Delos Santos, conducted a Clarificatory Conference and Onsite Monitoring with the Maibo Magsasaka Association (MAMAAS), an association composed of former rebels and Indigenous Peoples (IPs), on August 12, 2026. The activity assessed the progress of the associationโ€™s livelihood project and provided guidance to strengthen its operations and sustainability.

During the conference, MAMAAS shared that its livelihood project began operating on June 16, 2026. The association demonstrated responsible project management by maintaining records of its income and expenses, while Ms. Delos Santos provided basic bookkeeping guidance to further strengthen its financial management. The team then proceeded to Maibo, Magsaysay, for onsite monitoring, where MAMAAS was found actively operating its bread-making enterprise.

From armed struggle to productive livelihood, MAMAAS members are steadily turning government assistance into a growing source of income. The association currently produces seven varieties of bread daily, with products selling out and generating nearly โ‚ฑ2,000 in estimated daily income. Their progress reflects how livelihood assistance, coupled with determination and ownership, can help former rebels and IPs build more stable, productive, and self-reliant lives.

Advancing Labor Secretary Francis N. Tolentinoโ€™s directive to strengthen voluntary compliance through employer education and partnership, the DOLE Davao del Norte Field Office continued its employer engagement efforts through the 2nd Batch of the 2026 Employersโ€™ Forum on Labor Laws Compliance held on August 12, 2026.

Building on the first batch conducted on August 5, the forum brought together employers and company representatives whose establishments had recently undergone labor inspection. The activity provided an avenue to discuss labor standards, occupational safety and health, and other labor and employment policies, while addressing compliance concerns and reinforcing employersโ€™ responsibilities.

For young Filipinos entering the workforce, having the right skills and workplace experience can make the difference between simply seeking a job and building a career. The JobStart Philippines Program, an initiative of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), provides young jobseekers with career coaching, life skills and technical training, internship opportunities, and employment facilitation. DOLE Secretary Francis N. Tolentino has emphasized the importance of equipping the youth with relevant skills for both current and future employment opportunities.

For Lovely Jane โ€œLabliโ€ Relatado, 25, of Purok 2, Barangay San Antonio, Babak District, Island Garden City of Samal, JobStart became a pathway to employment and personal growth. After participating in the program from July to December 2025, she gained valuable workplace experience and developed skills in administrative work, communication, coordination, and professional responsibilities. Her dedication led to her absorption by China Road and Bridge Corporation, where she now works as an Administrative Staff. Starting with little knowledge of the job, Lovely discovered her capabilities, gained confidence, and found a stable source of income that allows her to help support her family. โ€œIโ€™m thankful sa JobStart kay naka-join ko ani nga programโ€ฆ Nisulod ko diri nga kompanya nga zero knowledge jud sa akong trabaho. Pasalamat ko kay tungod nila, na-discover nako nga kaya ra man diay nako ning mga trabahoa,โ€ she shared.

Her journey demonstrates how JobStart can bridge the gap between being a young jobseeker and becoming a skilled, productive, and confident worker.

In line with the directive of DOLE Secretary Francis Tolentino to strengthen labor compliance through developmental interventions, and under the leadership of Provincial Director Leo Ariel A. Pepino, the DOLE XI โ€“ Davao del Sur Field Office intensifies the implementation of the Technical Advisory Visit (TAV) program for micro-establishments in Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur, bringing practical guidance on General Labor Standards (GLS) and Occupational Safety and Health Standards (OSHS) closer to employers.

Recognizing that some establishments are situated in far-flung areas or are unable to attend scheduled TAV orientations, the Field Office goes beyond the orientation by taking its technical assistance directly to the workplace. Through establishment-to-establishment visits, DOLE personnel help employers identify compliance gaps, understand applicable labor standards, and determine appropriate corrective measures toward voluntary complianceโ€”ensuring that accessibility does not become a barrier to receiving government assistance.

The intervention does not end with a single visit. Establishments with identified gaps are provided with follow-up visits and continuing technical assistance to help them progress toward compliance. Through this sustained and hands-on approach, DOLE XI โ€“ Davao del Sur Field Office demonstrates its commitment to meeting establishments where they are and staying the course with them toward safer, fairer, and labor-compliant workplaces.

DAVAO DEL NORTE โ€“ A worker successfully received Php108,428.91 in monetary benefits following the successful conciliation facilitated by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Davao del Norte Field Office, July 30, 2026, through its Single Entry Approach (SEnA) program.
The Request for Assistance (RFA) was initially filed to seek the payment of the workerโ€™s Service Incentive Leave (SIL) benefits and the separation package allegedly granted by the company as part of its established practice for voluntarily resigning employees.

During the initial conference, the Single Entry Assistance Desk Officer (SEADO), LEO III Magie Mae P. Abellana, explained the Confidentiality and Non-Disclosure Agreement (CNDA) and the SEnA process to both parties. The worker raised concerns regarding the delay in the release of the companyโ€™s separation package and sought clarification as to why another former employee received payment earlier. The employer explained that the previous employeeโ€™s claim had been processed ahead of others due to humanitarian considerations arising from illness and committed to verify the status of the workerโ€™s claim with management.

As conditions in Davao Occidental continue to improve compared with the difficult days following the June 2026 earthquake, we look back with appreciation at how Government Internship Program (GIP) interns contributed to the education sector during a challenging period for affected communities.
โ€‹
Their efforts reflected the vision of DOLE Secretary Francis N. Tolentino of providing young Filipinos with meaningful opportunities to gain work experience while developing responsibility, resilience, and a strong sense of public service.
โ€‹
More than simply completing their internship, these young individuals became part of the collective effort to help schools respond, recover, and continue serving learners during a difficult time.
