𝐃𝐚𝐯𝐚𝐨 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐋𝐆𝐔 𝐡𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐬 𝐬𝐮𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐃𝐂 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐥 𝐔𝐥𝐭𝐫𝐚

Davao City reached another milestone in its sports scene on July 26 with the successful staging of the first DC Trail Ultra.

The DC Trail Ultra is the first trail running event organized by the City Government of Davao in partnership with the Kinetix Sports and Team Davao Runners. The race featured challenging distance categories, including 50 kilometers for professional runners, 25 kilometers and 12 kilometers for intermediate trail runners, and a beginner-friendly 5-kilometer course.

The event drew in a total of 3,000 race participants across the country, who tackled the challenging yet scenic terrain in Calinan and Baguio Districts.

“This is, by far, the biggest convergence of all the seasoned, strong, fast trail runners in the Philippines to date,” Mikey Aportadera, Head of the City Sports Development Division, shared in his message prior to the 50- kilometer run gun start.

The event started shortly after midnight with a brief program to welcome race participants and remind them of the race guidelines. A ritual was also offered by the members of the Bagobo Klata community.

Aportadera told the City Information Office (CIO) that they have received several good feedbacks from the race participants.

“Daghan kaayo mi’g positive comments kay tungod it’s unique because nakita nila ang Davao City beyond the roads, and they appreciate ang backroads nato, ang mga nakapuyo sa kabukiran sa Davao City. In fact, ang mga lumulupyo sa ato’ng kabukiran is very supportive sad sa atoa. Everybody was happy (We received a lot of positive comments because it's unique—they saw Davao City beyond the roads, and they appreciated our backroads and the people living in the mountain areas of Davao City. In fact, the residents of our highlands are also very supportive of us. Everybody was happy),” he said.

He also bared that due to challenging weather conditions in the past days, some changes were made to prioritize the safety of the race participants.

“We were very particular with the safety of everybody,” Aportadera emphasized.

Meanwhile, Public Safety and Security Office (PSSO) Head Angel Sumagaysay said there were 1,545 integrated safety and security personnel deployed during the race to further ensure the safety and well-being of the runners.

“Very satisfied ang atong participants kay dali ra maabot sa security and safety personnel kung naa sila’y need (Our participants are very satisfied because they can easily reach the security and safety personnel whenever they need them),” he said.

Race participants took to social media to commend the organizers of the event for the excellent aid stations, accessible medical support, strategically positioned dedicated race marshalls and security personnel, as well as the warm support of the community in the area.

“Everything was exceptionally well-organized—from the smooth race flow, the positive atmosphere, and the amazing volunteers, to the medical teams strategically deployed everywhere, making every runner feel safe and well taken care of,” Guia Angelie Cabigas, one of the race participants, wrote in a Facebook post.

The City Government of Davao extended its gratitude to event partners, the community, personnel from the barangays where the trail traversed, and to every race participant who heeded the call of the DC Trail Ultra: Built for the Bold. CIO

The Davao City Public Safety and Security Office (PSSO) will deploy more than 19,000 security personnel to ensure the peace and secure conduct of activities throughout the Kadayawan Festival 2026, which will run from August 7 until August 31, 2026.

Ret. PLtCoL Angel B. Sumagaysay, Head of the PSSO said that the integrated safety and security personnel is fully equipped, placing over 700 personnel every day to guarantee seamless operations throughout the festivities.

“We have our mission for these monthlong activities and we would like to achieve the zero incidents sa entire duration of activities and dili namo na makab-ot without the cooperation sa tanan, of everyone. Hopefully, you will extend your support to the security cluster (We have our mission for these monthlong activities and we would like to achieve zero incidents for the entire duration of the activities, and we cannot achieve that without the cooperation of everyone. Hopefully, you will extend your support to the security cluster),” he said during the Kadayawan Festival 2026 media launch on July 22, 2026.

Dabawenyos are also reminded that deadly weapons such as fi****ms and knives, umbrellas, alcoholic beverages, backpacks, jackets or hoodies, lighters, unauthorized wearing of Safety and Security Cluster uniforms, non-transparent water containers, toy guns, and laser lights are strictly prohibited in all Kadayawan events.

Among the highlights of the celebration is the return of the Subang Sinugdanan ug Panagtagbo on August 7, the Hiyas sa Kadayawan 2026: The Grand Coronation on August 13 and the Pamulak ug Indak-Indak sa Kadayawan on August 16, which is expected to draw thousands of Dabawenyos and visitors.

Sumagaysay encouraged Dabawenyos and visitors to remain vigilant and embrace the city’s culture of security.

“Let’s enjoy the Kadayawan Festival 2026 and don’t forget to embrace the culture of security,” he added.

The 2026 Kadayawan Festival will officially kick off on Friday, August 7, 2026, at Magsaysay Park. CIO

The Davao City Public Safety and Security Office (PSSO) said that about 19,000 integrated safety and security personnel would be deployed for the month-long Kadayawan Festival 2026.

Angel Sumagaysay, head of PSSO, said during the media launching of the Kadayawan Festival on July 22, 2026, at Acacia Hotel Davao, that with the 19,000 integrated personnel, they would have a daily deployment of 700 personnel.

On July 18, 2026, the Bantay Bukid Ug Tubig Volunteers (BBTV), participated in a Simulation Exercise (SIMEX) organized by the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) in preparation for the upcoming Davao City Trail Ultra on July 25–26, 2026.

The activity was conducted in coordination with the 911 Emergency Responders, Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Rescue Team, and Trail Davao Runners at Sitio Tabak. The exercise aimed to assess emergency response capabilities, strengthen coordination among participating agencies, and ensure the effectiveness of safety and security measures for the upcoming event.

The meeting brought together concerned offices and partner agencies to finalize key operational plans for the event scheduled on July 26, 2026, a Baguio District, Davao City.

The Public Safety and Security Office (PSSO) has stepped up its efforts to strengthen safety measures in schools and other covered establishments across Davao City.

As part of the implementation of heightened campus security protocols, Civil Security Guards (CSG) assigned to schools and establishments were directed to strictly conduct frisking of students, parents, and visitors upon entry. Supervisors were likewise instructed to closely monitor their respective areas to ensure the immediate and proper enforcement of the directive.

Complementing these measures, the PSSO also participated in the Stakeholders Forum for the Academe in Public Schools held on
July 3, 2026, at Kapanalig Hall, Davao City Police Office. The forum brought together school principals, representatives from the Department of Education-Davao City Division, and members of the Security Cluster to discuss stronger coordination, preparedness, and response measures for schools.

The activity underscored the continuing commitment of the city government and partner agencies to maintain peaceful, secure, and resilient learning environments for students, teachers, and school communities.

Magsasagawa ang Davao City Public Safety and Security Office (PSSO) ng active shooter simulation exercise sa mga paaralan upang mapalakas ang kahandaan ng mga g**o at estudyante sa mga emergency.

Ayon kay PSSO head Angel Sumagaysay, layunin ng drill na ihanda ang mga paaralan sakaling maulit ang insidente tulad ng nangyari sa Tacloban City kung saan tatlong estudyante ang nasawi.

Nakikipag-ugnayan na ang PSSO sa iba’t ibang paaralan at security cluster para sa maayos na implementasyon ng pagsasanay.

Sinabi rin ng PSSO na may umiiral nang police protocols sa ganitong uri ng insidente, ngunit kapos ang bilang ng pulis at security personnel sa mga paaralan.
