Pwede bang cashless-only ang payment sa stores? Yes, basta klaro ug gipahibalo daan sa customers ang ilang payment policy. Pero kung wala kini gi-disclose beforehand, dili basta-basta makabalibad ang merchant sa Philippine cash as payment.

As consumers, naa tay katungod sa klaro nga impormasyon ug patas nga pagtratar. Magmatngon, hibalo sa atong rights, ug shop with confidence!

BORN AND RAISED BY DABAWENYOS

I read a post recently that seemed to suggest that Davao City’s progress and identity can be traced mainly to the Dutertes.

I think that needs a little clarification.

Davao is not about the Dutertes. Davao is about Dabawenyos.

I was born and raised here. I grew up seeing ordinary Dabawenyos—workers, entrepreneurs, farmers, professionals, drivers, teachers, vendors, public servants and business owners—do their part in making this city what it is today.

Yes, the Duterte administration left a significant mark on Davao, particularly in peace and order, infrastructure, discipline and public service. That contribution can be acknowledged.

But Davao did not become Davao because of one family. Dabawenyos built Davao.

Generations of Dabawenyos worked, paid taxes, opened businesses, raised families, volunteered in their communities and supported initiatives that made this city safer, more orderly and more progressive.

And that is precisely why rankings such as the Oxford Economics Global Cities Index should not be treated as a trophy of any political family. They are a recognition of an entire city and the people who make it work.

So, if we are going to celebrate Davao’s achievements, let us give credit where credit is due—to the Dabawenyos.

To every generation that helped build this city.
To those who came before us, those who are working today, and those who will carry Davao forward tomorrow.

Davao is not a Duterte city. It is a Dabawenyo city.

You are free to recognize the contributions of the Dutertes to Davao, but we should never forget the bigger truth.

The Dutertes are part of Davao’s story. Dabawenyos are the story.

I am proud to have been born and raised here.
This is our city. This is Davao. This is where life is here.

𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗡𝗘𝗫𝗧: 𝗡𝘂𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗣𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗗𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘂𝗲

Coun. Atty. Luna Acosta served as one of the panelists during the launch of Project NEXT on September 28, 2026, a youth-focused initiative that aims to empower the next generation of DabawenYouth leaders in local governance, peacebuilding, and interreligious and intercultural dialogue.

During the discussion, Coun. Acosta shared insights on Davao City’s Culture of Peace and Security and Dabawenyo DCplinado Program, highlighting how local policies help promote peace, and meaningful dialogue among people of different faiths and cultures.

As Chairperson of the Committee on Peace and Public Safety, she emphasized that building a peaceful and secure Davao City is a shared responsibility—one that requires not only strong policies and institutions, but also young leaders who are willing to listen, engage, and help bridge communities.

Through initiatives like Project NEXT, the next generation of DabawenYouth is given a space to become active partners in sustaining peace, strengthening social cohesion, and fostering understanding across diverse communities.

MESSAGE OF SOLIDARITY AND SUPPORT FOR MAYOR BASTE DUTERTE AS HE ATTENDS THE IMPEACHMENT TRIAL TODAY –

I stand in support of Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte amid his inclusion as a hostile witness by the Senate as the Impeachment Court. As public officials, we may be called upon to answer questions and face scrutiny in the performance of our duties. However, such processes must always be grounded in fairness, transparency, and due process.

Mayor Baste deserves the same fairness and respect for due process accorded to every citizen. We condemn any attempt to weaponize legal and political processes for partisan gain. Such moves undermine democratic principles and erode public trust in institutions meant to serve the people. Mayor Baste Duterte has consistently demonstrated his commitment to the welfare of Davaoeños, and any efforts to drag him into politically driven plots only strengthens our resolve to support him.

Mayor, as you take the witness stand, ayaw kalimot nga daghang Dabawenyo ang nagbarog uban kanimo. Lig-on mi, proud mi, ug dili mi mobiya. Naa ming mga Dabawenyo nga nagbarog uban kanimo, karon ug sa tanang panahon.

As Chairperson of the Committee on Peace and Public Safety, Coun. Acosta shared insights on the importance of strengthening collaboration among the justice sector, local government, and academic institutions in promoting safer and more peaceful communities.

She also delivered the message of Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte, reaffirming the City Government of Davao’s commitment to working with various sectors in addressing challenges and advancing initiatives that uphold justice, peace, and public safety.
