DAVAO CITY - The Joint Davao and Talomo River Water Quality Management Area (WQMA) Action Plan Appraisal Committee conducted an Action Plan Appraisal on August 13, 2026, to evaluate the progress of the approved Action Plan and assess the latest water quality monitoring results within the WQMA.
The appraisal focused on priority water quality parameters, namely Total Suspended Solids (TSS), Phosphate, Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD), and F***l Coliform, with particular emphasis on identifying potential pollution sources and developing corresponding actionable interventions.
The Committee also revisited and discussed the issues and concerns raised during the previous WQMA Governing Board (GB) Meeting held on June 25, 2026, including matters requiring further technical assessment, data validation, stakeholder coordination, and appropriate interventions. It likewise reviewed the overall water quality status of the PaniganโTamugan River, including the potability of upstream water sources, the potential utilization of surface water for drinking-water supply, and opportunities for funding and resource mobilization.
The activity was chaired by the University of the Immaculate Conception (UIC) and attended by representatives from the Department of Science and Technology XI, Kapwa Upliftment Foundation, Inc., Davao City Water District, Davao City Environment and Natural Resources Office, Davao City Health Office, Department of Agriculture XI, Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc., and Pilipino Banana Growers and Exporters Association. Their participation provided valuable inputs on data validation, pollution-source management, compliance monitoring, stakeholder coordination, and the implementation of the WQMA Action Plan.
Overall, the appraisal consolidated key findings and recommendations, addressed outstanding concerns from the previous GB Meeting, and identified priority actions requiring further technical assessment and implementation.
