Councilor Atty. Rachel P. Zozobrado joined fellow lawmakers Councilor Atty. Luna Acosta and Councilor Atty. Diosdado Mahipus during the regular "Pulong-Pulong sa Dabawenyos" media forum held yesterday at the Sangguniang Panlungsod. The press conference served as a platform for the councilors to directly engage with local media and provide updates on vital legislative matters.

With Atty. Luna Acosta, Chair of the Committee on Peace and Public Safety, and Atty. Diosdado Mahipus, Chair of the Committee on Housing, Rural and Urban Development (Socialized Housing), the panel addressed a wide range of pressing issues concerning city governance, public safety, and community welfare.

For her part, Councilor Rachel P. Zozobrado provided key legislative updates regarding her two nutrition-related ordinances recently passed on 3rd reading, and the city's ongoing policy enforcement against the illicit cigarette trade. She also shared updates on the two Committees she chairs, Committee on International Relations and Committee on Migrant Workers.

During the 22nd Regular Session, the City Council deliberated on significant matters concerning digital transformation, local innovation, and public utility management, underscoring the City Government's commitment to exploring advanced and responsive solutions for the people of Davao.

The major highlight of todayโ€™s plenary was the Privilege Speech delivered by Councilor Bonz Andre A. Militar, chair of the Committee on Information Technology, who emphasized the cityโ€™s proactive efforts to explore emerging technologies. Following his speech, a live demonstration featured two AI-powered robots developed by East West International Education Specialist Inc. The robots showcased their advanced capabilities by translating up to 200 languages, responding to selected queries, and even performing a dance to Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" right inside the plenary.

Furthermore, the City Council approved on Third and Final Reading an ordinance proposed under the Committee on Transportation and Communications, chaired by Councilor Jose Maria C. Baluran, for a temporary road lane closure on June 7, 2026. This measure will safely accommodate the upcoming "Pride Run Davao Leg 2026" along designated city streets from 3:00 AM to 8:00 AM.

Davao City Mayor Sebastian "Baste" Z. Duterte, alongside key local officials, received the officers of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) during a courtesy meeting held yesterday afternoon, May 30, aboard the JS Ikazuchi destroyer ship at Sasa Wharf.

The naval delegation, led by Commander Nobukazu Ryuzo, Commanding Officer of the JS Ikazuchi, welcomed the city delegation for the diplomatic meeting and an exclusive tour of the Murasame-class destroyer. Joining Mayor Duterte during the high-level engagement were Consulate General of Japan in Davao City, headed by Consul General Ono, City Councilor, and Chairperson of the SP Committee on International Relations Hon. Rachel P. Zozobrado, City Information Office (CIO) Officer-In-Charge Mr. Harvey James Lanticse, and Davao City Investment and Promotion Center (DCIPC) Economist III Mr. Christian D. Cambaya.

This port call marks another significant milestone following the successful visit of the JMSDF Training Squadron last February. The meeting serves to further strengthen bilateral friendship, foster regional stability, and reinforce mutual maritime ties between Japan and the City of Davao.

Councilor Atty. Rachel P. Zozobrado, Chairperson of the Committee on International Relations and the Committee on Migrant Workers, warmly welcomed the officials from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA RWO XI) during a courtesy visit held yesterday at the Sangguniang Panlungsod.

The meeting, led by Regional Director Mohammad I. Victor, focused on strengthening the partnership between the local government unit and OWWA. Key discussions revolved around upcoming programs, collaborative initiatives, and enhanced support mechanisms designed to ensure the effective and accessible delivery of services for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and their families within the locality.

Also present during the courtesy visit were OIC-Programs and Services Division Chief Mayette A. Almano, Reintegration Focal Person Herman C. Sab, and Family Welfare Officer Jovienil N. Sebompan.
