𝐁𝐅𝐀𝐑 𝐗𝐈 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐬 𝐔𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐀𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬

The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) successfully conducted an underwater assessment of the proposed Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) in Barangays Santa Felomina and San Antonio from July 27 to 31, 2026, as part of its continuing efforts to support the conservation and sustainable management of coastal and marine resources in the Municipality of Cateel.

The five-day assessment involved the evaluation of the ecological condition of the identified marine sites to determine their suitability for designation as Marine Protected Areas. The activity gathered scientific data that will serve as a basis for future conservation planning and resource management initiatives in the municipality.

Following the completion of the assessment, the BFAR team paid a courtesy visit to the Office of the Municipal Mayor, where they were welcomed by Executive Assistant Michael Rosalia on behalf of Municipal Mayor Hon. Emilou C. Nuñez. During the meeting, BFAR presented the initial results of the underwater assessment and shared its recommendations to further strengthen the protection and sustainable management of the municipality's coastal ecosystems.

The BFAR representatives also met with the Municipal Agriculture Office, headed by Municipal Agriculturist Ildefonsa Reyes, to discuss the assessment findings and explore collaborative efforts in implementing appropriate measures for marine biodiversity conservation and fisheries resource management.

The Municipality of Cateel remains steadfast in supporting initiatives that advance environmental sustainability and strengthen partnerships with national government agencies in preserving the municipality's rich coastal and marine ecosystems.

𝗕𝗙𝗔𝗥 𝗫𝗜 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀’ 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗙𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗩𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗹 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀

The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources XI (BFAR XI), through its Fisheries Regulatory and Licensing Section, conducted the Stakeholders’ Meeting for Fishing Vessel Operators on July 29, 2026, at the Governor Generoso Municipal Hall in Davao Oriental.

Conducted in coordination with the Municipal Agriculture Office of Governor Generoso, the activity aimed to strengthen stakeholders’ understanding of fisheries licensing, vessel monitoring, catch reporting, and regulatory compliance.

The meeting gathered fishing vessel owners and operators, boat captains, and fishing industry representatives.

BFAR XI representatives discussed commercial fishing vessel licensing requirements, common deficiencies in applications, and compliance with existing fisheries laws and regulations.

The activity concluded with a hands-on practicum on the proper completion of fisheries application forms and catch log sheets. The session provided participants with practical guidance to improve reporting compliance and promote responsible fishing practices.

More than an information session, the activity served as a platform for dialogue and collaboration among fisheries stakeholders, reinforcing BFAR XI’s commitment to regulatory compliance, responsible fishing practices, sustainable fisheries management, and the conservation of aquatic resources.
