Foreign Body Airway Obstruction, which is the medical term for choking. It happens when food or a small object gets stuck in the throat or windpipe and blocks air.

Signs of FBAO: Clutching or holding the neck, Trouble breathing or no air moving, Not being able to speak or make noise, A weak, silent cough or turning blue.

How to Help:
Ask: Ask the person if they are choking.
Back blows: Give up to 5 sharp slaps on the back between the shoulder blades.
Abdominal thrusts: Do quick inward and upward thrusts into the stomach (also called the Heimlich maneuver). Repeat cycle.

Fire Safety Seminar, Fire Drill, and Basic Life Support (BLS) Training in the community to enhance public awareness and preparedness for emergencies. During the seminar, BFP personnel discussed the common causes of fire incidents, fire prevention measures, proper use of fire extinguishers, and the importance of having a family emergency evacuation plan. The activity aimed to equip community members with essential knowledge and practical skills to prevent fire-related accidents and respond effectively during emergencies.

Following the seminar, participants took part in a fire drill and Basic Life Support (BLS) training facilitated by BFP personnel. Residents practiced proper evacuation procedures, learned how to remain calm and organized during fire emergencies, and were trained in essential life-saving techniques such as assessing an emergency scene, performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and providing first aid while waiting for medical responders. The successful conduct of the activity strengthened the community's disaster preparedness, improved emergency response capabilities, and reinforced the importance of cooperation in protecting lives and property.

The Community Fire Auxiliary Group (CFAG) is a volunteer organization that supports the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in promoting fire safety, disaster preparedness, and community resilience. Members assist in activities such as fire prevention campaigns, public education, emergency response, traffic management during incidents, and community outreach programs. Through regular training and coordination with the BFP, CFAG volunteers develop essential skills in firefighting support, first aid, and disaster response, enabling them to contribute effectively during emergencies while strengthening public awareness of fire safety practices.

One of the greatest strengths of the Community Fire Auxiliary Group is the camaraderie shared among its members. Built on trust, teamwork, and a common commitment to serving the community, this strong bond allows volunteers to work efficiently under challenging and often stressful situations. Members encourage and support one another through training, emergency operations, and community service activities, creating lasting friendships and a sense of belonging. This spirit of unity and cooperation not only improves their effectiveness during emergencies but also inspires dedication, discipline, and a shared passion for protecting lives and property.

Some specialized hose rolls are also designed for wildland firefighting, featuring lighter construction for easier transport across rough terrain. Proper inspection, cleaning, drying, and rolling techniques are essential to maintain hose performance and extend service life, ensuring that firefighters can rely on the equipment during emergencies.

Under the supervision of 𝐅𝐂𝐒𝐔𝐏𝐓 π‘πˆπ™π€π‹πƒπ„ 𝐌 π‚π€π’π“π‘πŽ, Regional Director BFP R11 and 𝐅𝐒𝐔𝐏𝐓 πƒπŽππ€π‹πƒ 𝐑 π‚πŽππ‚π„ππ‚πˆπŽπ, District Fire Marshal of Davao City Fire District, Bunawan Fire Station personnel led by π’π…πŽπŸ’ 𝐏𝐑𝐒π₯𝐒𝐩 𝐂 π‚π¨π π­πšπ¬, Station Commander, conducted Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) Donning and Doffing Refresher Course. It is to reinforce the proper procedures for safely putting on and removing SCBA equipment during firefighting and rescue operations. The training emphasizes the importance of conducting pre-use inspections, ensuring a secure fit, checking air supply levels, and following standardized donning techniques to maximize firefighter safety in hazardous environments. Through hands-on practice, participants strengthen their proficiency and confidence in using SCBA under operational conditions.
The refresher course also focuses on the correct doffing procedures to prevent contamination, avoid equipment damage, and maintain operational readiness. Firefighters are reminded to follow established BFP safety protocols, properly clean and inspect the SCBA after use, and report any defects for maintenance. By regularly conducting SCBA donning and doffing refresher training, the BFP ensures that personnel remain competent, prepared, and capable of responding effectively to emergencies while protecting both themselves and the communities they serve.
