Foreign Body Airway Obstruction, which is the medical term for choking. It happens when food or a small object gets stuck in the throat or windpipe and blocks air.
Signs of FBAO: Clutching or holding the neck, Trouble breathing or no air moving, Not being able to speak or make noise, A weak, silent cough or turning blue.
How to Help:
Ask: Ask the person if they are choking.
Back blows: Give up to 5 sharp slaps on the back between the shoulder blades.
Abdominal thrusts: Do quick inward and upward thrusts into the stomach (also called the Heimlich maneuver). Repeat cycle.
