LOOK!!! NSTP Orientation Held, ROTC Presented as One of Its Core Components

Alfelor Sr. Memorial College — The National Service Training Program (NSTP) conducted its general orientation for first-year college students of Alfelor Sr Memorial College (ASMC) to discuss the program’s goals, guidelines, and available components. During the activity, it was clarified that the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) is one of the three components of the NSTP. held at ASMC CJED Review Room, At 0800H 12, August 2026.

NSTP was established under Republic Act No. 9163 to develop civic consciousness, promote defense preparedness, and encourage youth participation in nation-building. The orientation aimed to help students understand the purpose of the program and make informed decisions about which component to take.

During the program overview, the facilitators explained that NSTP has three components, and students are required to complete only one:

ROTC – Reserve Officers’ Training Corps
Focuses on military training, leadership development, discipline, and community service. Cadets undergo drills, lectures, and civic activities designed to develop patriotism, responsibility, and a sense of duty.

CWTS – Civic Welfare Training Service
Focuses on community service projects related to health, education, environmental protection, livelihood, and other activities that contribute to community welfare.

LTS – Literacy Training Service
Focuses on teaching literacy and numeracy skills to schoolchildren and out-of-school youth.

Representing the ROTC, SSg Alan D Mondigo (Inf) PA, Chief Clerk, presented the training schedule, uniform and attendance policies, and the core values that the program seeks to instill: discipline, leadership, teamwork, and love of country. He emphasized that ROTC is not only about military drills but also about character formation, leadership development, and community involvement.

An open forum followed, during which students raised questions regarding enrollment, grading, training requirements, and the benefits of each component. The ROTC representatives encouraged students to choose a component based on their interests and their ability to commit throughout the entire term.

The NSTP orientation provided students with clear and essential information about their options and responsibilities under the program. With ROTC as one of its components, NSTP continues to help develop disciplined, responsible, and service-oriented youth who are prepared to contribute to their communities and the nation. Completing any NSTP component fulfills an academic requirement while also helping students develop the values of service, leadership, and civic responsibility.
