PNP FORTIFIES BARMM FOR PARLIAMENTARY ELECTIONS WITH 9,821-PERSON DEPLOYMENT

Peace at the polls begins long before the first ballot is cast. With the September 14, 2026 Parliamentary Elections in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) fast approaching, the Philippine National Police (PNP) is mounting a large-scale security deployment involving 9,821 personnel to help protect voters, election workers, polling sites, and other vital election facilities.

The deployment places police personnel in strategic locations throughout the region, with the largest contingent assigned to 4,313 voting centers. Security coverage will also extend to 208 Commission on Elections (COMELEC) offices, 218 treasurers’ offices, and 856 checkpoints, while 2,120 Quick Reaction Forces (QRFs) remain positioned to address situations requiring immediate police response.

Additional capabilities will come from 352 Civil Disturbance Management (CDM) personnel and 1,754 Special Electoral Board (SEB) personnel, creating a layered security arrangement that allows the PNP to address different requirements associated with the electoral process. These forces will complement regular police operations and help maintain order in areas where large numbers of voters and election workers are expected.

Police Regional Office BARMM will provide 4,361 personnel for the deployment, while 5,460 augmentation personnel will reinforce the regional police force. The augmentation comes from other Police Regional Offices and specialized PNP units, including 2,430 personnel from other PROs, 250 from the Maritime Group, 50 from the Highway Patrol Group, 146 from EOD-K9, 830 from the PNP Special Action Force, and 1,754 from the PNP SEB.

The breadth of the deployment reflects the PNP’s preparations for an election that requires security coverage across land-based voting areas, government facilities, and other locations connected to the electoral process. Specialized units will provide additional capabilities, while QRFs will remain available to address emerging situations and support police units when circumstances demand reinforcement.

PGEN Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., Chief, PNP, underscored the importance of maintaining a police presence that reassures voters while protecting the electoral process.

“Our personnel are deployed not only to secure election areas, but to help create an environment where people can exercise their right to vote freely, peacefully, and without intimidation,” PGEN Nartatez said.

The PNP is also calling on voters and communities to contribute to a peaceful election by staying alert and reporting suspicious activities or incidents to authorities. Public cooperation can help police address security concerns promptly and prevent potential disruptions.

“Ang bawat botante ay dapat makaboto nang ligtas at malaya. Makipagtulungan tayo at agad ireport ang anumang kahina-hinalang gawain sa mga awtoridad,” he added.

PNP ARRESTS 8 REGIONAL MOST WANTED PERSONS IN ONE-DAY OPS

The Philippine National Police, under the command of PNP Chief PGEN Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., arrested eight regional most wanted persons in one-day operations conducted nationwide on September 8, 2026.

In the Cordillera Administrative Region, police arrested the No. 5 regional most wanted person in Baguio City, the No. 5 regional most wanted person in Kalinga, and the No. 6 regional most wanted person in Baguio City for violations of Republic Act No. 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

In Region 1, police arrested the No. 9 regional most wanted person in La Union for violation of Section 11, Article II of R.A. No. 9165.

In Region 7, police arrested two No. 3 regional most wanted persons in Cebu—one for illegal recruitment by a syndicate and in large scale constituting economic sabotage, and another for violation of Republic Act No. 10022, or the Migrant Workers and Overseas Filipinos Act of 1995, as amended.

In Region 12, police arrested the No. 10 regional most wanted person in General Santos City for two counts of r**e and the No. 10 regional most wanted person in Cotabato for acts of lasciviousness in relation to Republic Act No. 7610, or the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act.

The arrests were carried out by various PNP units, including the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, intelligence units, local police units, Regional Mobile Force Battalion elements, and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in drug-related cases.

“Every arrest brings a wanted individual closer to accountability. We will remain firm in pursuing those who evade the law and protecting our communities,” PGEN Nartatez said.

“Hindi tayo titigil sa paghahanap sa mga wanted person. Kailangang managot ang mga lumalabag sa batas,” he added.

The accomplishments support the PNP Focused Agenda, particularly Enhanced Managing Police Operations, which strengthens sustained law enforcement efforts against wanted persons.

CHINESE NATIONAL, 2 OTHERS ARRESTED OVER ALLEGED SALE OF NON-COMPLIANT BATTERIES

Three individuals were arrested in a law enforcement operation in Sta. Maria, Bulacan following the reported sale of imported automotive and e-bike batteries allegedly not compliant with Philippine consumer safety standards.

The operation was conducted by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) National Capital Region Field Unit, in coordination with the Sta. Maria Municipal Police Station, from the evening of September 4 until early September 5, 2026, at a warehouse in Barangay Pulong Buhangin.

Among those arrested was a female Chinese national reportedly operating the warehouse, along with two Filipino employees. Authorities recovered automotive and e-bike batteries with an estimated value of PHP1.5 million, which are being subjected to further verification and appropriate examination by concerned authorities.

The operation was carried out for an alleged violation of Republic Act No. 7394, or the Consumer Act of the Philippines, which provides measures to protect consumers and promote the safety and quality of products made available in the market.

Chief PNP Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. said the PNP will continue to support efforts that help ensure consumers are protected from products that may not meet established safety requirements.

“Kapag bumili ang isang consumer, ang expectation niya simple lang: safe, maayos, at pasado sa standards ang produkto. That is why we will continue to act on legitimate reports and work with our partner agencies to keep potentially unsafe products from reaching the public. At the same time, we will make sure that every operation is conducted properly and that the rights of those involved are respected,” PGen Nartatez said.

The PNP said the operation reflects its continuing efforts under the PNP Focused Agenda, particularly through Enhanced Managing Police Operations (EMPO), which promotes timely action, coordination, and effective police response to concerns affecting public safety. PNP TURNS OVER FORMER SPEAKER ROMUALDEZ TO BJMP CUSTODY

The Philippine National Police (PNP) formally turned over the custody and security of former Speaker Ferdinand Martin Gomez Romualdez to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) on Thursday, September 10, 2026, in compliance with the Order of Commitment issued by the Sandiganbayan Third Division.

Romualdez is facing a plunder case before the Sandiganbayan over alleged kickbacks linked to government flood control projects. The case remains under judicial proceedings, with due process and the presumption of innocence fully observed.

At about 3:50 PM, BJMP personnel formally assumed custody and security responsibility over Romualdez at the medical facility in San Juan where he remains confined. The turnover followed verification of the court order and completion of the necessary custodial procedures.

Chief PNP Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. said the PNP will continue to implement court orders professionally, in coordination with concerned government agencies and with full respect for due process.

“We simply did what the court ordered, and we did it properly. The PNP’s responsibility is to make sure that every legal process entrusted to us is carried out with professionalism and respect for the rights of the person in our custody. Trabaho lang, ayon sa batas at sa utos ng korte.”

FAKE TRAFFIC ENFORCER ARRESTED IN ALLEGED EXTORTION ATTEMPT IN PARAÑAQUE

Police authorities in Parañaque City arrested a 42-year-old man who allegedly posed as an active traffic enforcer and demanded money from a local business in exchange for supposedly preventing traffic violations involving its delivery vehicles.

The suspect initially approached personnel of a concrete products company in Barangay San Martin de Porres on September 1, claiming to be a traffic enforcer from Taguig City. He allegedly asked for money in return for allowing the company’s trucks to operate without receiving traffic citations.

The suspect returned to the establishment on September 9 and again allegedly made the same demand. Alert employees promptly sought police assistance, leading responding officers to intercept and arrest him.

Verification with the Taguig City Traffic Management Office later showed that the suspect was no longer an active traffic enforcer, although he had previously served in such capacity.

The suspect is currently under police custody while appropriate legal proceedings are being undertaken. He is facing complaints for Attempted Robbery-Extortion, Usurpation of Authority, and Resistance and Disobedience to a Person in Authority under Article 151 of the Revised Penal Code.

Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., Chief of the Philippine National Police, commended the quick action of the responding personnel and the cooperation of the business employees.

“Hindi dapat ginagamit ang pangalan ng law enforcement para makakuha ng anumang pabor o pera. If there is a questionable demand, speak up. In this case, the employees did the right thing by asking for police assistance, and our personnel responded. That kind of vigilance helps us address concerns quickly and protect the public,” PGen Nartatez said.

He emphasized that the PNP remains committed to protecting businesses and communities from individuals who may attempt to misuse the name or authority of law enforcement for personal gain.

The operation forms part of the PNP’s Focused Agenda, particularly its Enhanced Managing Police Operations, which emphasizes timely police response, proper coordination, and effective action on reported incidents.
