TROPICAL CYCLONE BULLETIN NO. 1
Tropical Depression “FLORITA”
Issued at 11:00 AM, 21 August 2022
Valid for broadcast until the next bulletin at 5:00 PM today

HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND AREAS
-Heavy Rains
• Currently, “FLORITA” is not directly affecting the country.
• Tomorrow early morning through afternoon, light to moderate with at times heavy rains may prevail over the
eastern sections of Northern and Central Luzon.
• By tomorrow evening through Tuesday evening, the passage of this tropical cyclone over the northern portion of
Luzon may bring heavy to intense rains over the Northern and Central Luzon.
• Under these conditions, scattered to widespread flooding (including flash floods) and rain-induced landslides
are expected especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazard as identified in hazard
maps, and in localities with significant antecedent rainfall.

-Severe Winds
No tropical cyclone wind signal is currently hoisted for this tropical cyclone. However, there is a high likelihood that
Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals will be hoisted for Northern Luzon and several provinces in Central Luzon due to the
threat of strong to storm-force winds associated with the passage of “FLORITA”. The highest possible wind signal
that may be hoisted is TCWS #2. Localities situated in the eastern section of Northern Luzon may be placed under
TCWS #1 as early as this afternoon.

HAZARDS AFFECTING COASTAL WATERS
The tropical depression will bring moderate to rough seas (1.2 to 2.8 m) over the eastern seaboard of Northern Luzon.
These conditions may be risky for those using small seacrafts. Mariners are advised to take precautionary measures
when venturing out to sea and, if possible, avoid navigating in these conditions.

TRACK AND INTENSITY OUTLOOK
• Tropical Depression “FLORITA” is forecast to decelerate generally southwestward in the next 12 hours before
turning westward tomorrow towards Northern Luzon. On the forecast track, the center of this tropical cyclone is
forecast to make landfall in the vicinity of Cagayan or northern portion of Isabela on Tuesday morning or afternoon.
Afterwards, the center of “FLORITA” will move west northwestward and cross several provinces in Northern Luzon
before emerging over the West Philippine Sea by Tuesday evening or Wednesday early morning.
• “FLORITA” developed into tropical depression at 8:00 AM today. This tropical cyclone is forecast to reach tropical
storm category in the next 36 hours and may reach peak intensity of 75 km/h prior to making landfall on Tuesday
morning or afternoon. Slight weakening is likely as it crosses the Northern Luzon, but it is forecast to remain within
the tropical storm category.

Considering these developments, the public and disaster risk reduction and management offices concerned are advised to
take all necessary measures to protect life and property. Persons living in areas identified to be highly or very highly
susceptible to these hazards are advised to follow evacuation and other instructions from local officials. For heavy rainfall
warnings, thunderstorm/rainfall advisories, and other severe weather information specific to your area, please
monitor products issued by your local PAGASA Regional Services Division.

The next tropical cyclone bulletin will be issued at 5:00 PM today
