As part of its continuing commitment to strengthening community-based livelihood initiatives, the Extension Services and Community Engagement (ESCE) Unit of Quirino State University (QSU) conducted a Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) activity of mushroom production and processing sites across Quirino Province on June 10-11, 2026.
The activity aimed to assess the current status of mushroom growers and processors who have adopted oyster mushroom production and processing technologies introduced through QSU's extension programs. Through site visits and consultations, the ESCE team evaluated the production facilities and operational practices of cooperatives, associations, and individual adopters to determine their efficiency, productivity, and compliance with recommended production standards.
Specifically, the monitoring activity sought to: (1) evaluate the production sites of mushroom adopters to determine efficiency and adherence to recommended practices; (2) provide business and technical support to cooperatives, associations, and individual adopters of oyster mushroom technology; and (3) assess the impact and sustainability of mushroom production and processing initiatives to ensure their long-term viability and growth.
During the monitoring visits, the ESCE team engaged directly with adopters to identify challenges, provide technical advice, and recommend improvements to enhance productivity and sustainability. The team also documented innovative practices and success stories developed by the adopters. These experiences will serve as valuable testimonies and learning materials for future training programs, allowing best practices and lessons learned to be shared with other stakeholders and aspiring mushroom growers.
Monitoring and Evaluation is a vital and highly technical component of QSU's extension initiatives. It has been integrated throughout the entire project cycle, from needs assessment and planning to implementation, adoption, and sustainability phases.
This systematic approach enables the University to track progress, measure outcomes, and ensure that extension interventions create meaningful and lasting impacts in the communities they serve.
Through this activity, QSU reaffirms its dedication to empowering local communities, promoting sustainable livelihood opportunities, and supporting the continued growth of the mushroom industry in Quirino Province.
