๐ˆ๐ ๐๐‡๐Ž๐“๐Ž๐’ | The Provincial Government of Davao del Sur, through the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO-LGU), participated in the 3rd Quarter Padada River Watershed Management Council Meeting held on October 1, 2026, at the DENR-PENRO Conference Room, Mabibi Superhighway, Digos City, Davao del Sur.

The meeting was attended by representatives from the different municipalities within the Padada River Watershed, together with representatives from various national government agencies. It was conducted in a hybrid format, allowing some participants to join virtually.

Among the highlights of the meeting were updates on the resolutions approved by the Council, ongoing activities and interventions for the sustainable management of the Padada River Watershed, and the recognition of the Padada River Watershed as a river basin. The meeting also highlighted the nomination of the Padada River as one of the Rivers for Life of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

These developments mark significant milestones in strengthening the sustainable management and protection of the Padada River, while reinforcing the commitment and active participation of concerned national government agencies, local government units, and other stakeholders in the continued conservation and management of the watershed.

Kini maka lambigit sa atong mga benepisyaryo sa Watershed program aron mas mapalungtad ang livelihood approaches sa atong mga mag-uuma na dili maapektuhan ang kaayuhan sa kinaiyahan.

September 25, 2026 | The Provincial Government of Davao del Sur was recognized for its valuable support and significant contributions to Solid Waste Management (SWM) during the 8th Environment Summit held at the SM Annex Building, Davao City.

The recognition highlights the Provinceโ€™s continued commitment to promoting environmental sustainability, responsible resource management, and effective solid waste management practices. It also acknowledges the collective efforts of the Provincial Government together with the City and Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office in supporting initiatives that contribute to waste reduction, resource recovery, and the protection of the environment.

This recognition serves as an encouragement for the Province to further strengthen its SWM programs and initiatives and to continue fostering partnerships with Local Government Units, communities, national government agencies, and other stakeholders toward a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable Davao del Sur. ๐ŸŒฑโ™ป๏ธ

September 18, 2026 | The Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) through its Solid Waste Management Program conducted an Information, Education and Communication (IEC) Orientation for the CY 2026 Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) Beneficiaries.

The activity was attended by thirty (30) identified barangay and school beneficiaries who participated in the orientation aimed at strengthening their understanding of proper solid waste management, particularly waste segregation, recovery, recycling, and the proper operation and utilization of MRFs.

The orientation also served as a venue to discuss the responsibilities of the beneficiaries in ensuring the proper use, maintenance, and sustainability of the MRF facilities as well as the importance of active community participation in reducing waste generation and promoting resource recovery.

Through this initiative, PENRO continues to support barangays and schools in strengthening their solid waste management practices and promoting a cleaner, healthier, and more environmentally responsible Province of Davao del Sur. โ™ป๏ธ

๐ŸŒŠ 2026 International Coastal Cleanup Day ๐ŸŒŠ

In celebration of the 2026 International Coastal Cleanup Day with the theme โ€œClean Seas for Resilient Communities,โ€ coastal cleanup activities were conducted at Brgy. Baybay, Malalag, on September 16 and Brgy. Aplaya, Hagonoy, Davao del Sur, on September 17.

The activities commenced at 6:00 AM and were participated in by various government offices and dedicated volunteers united in protecting our coastal ecosystems.

The Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) through its Water Quality Management and Solid Waste Management Programs, conducted an Information, Education and Communication (IEC) Campaign for the Barangay Captains and School Teachers of the Municipality of Magsaysay. The activity was held on September 16, 2026, at the Pilar Navidad Hall, Municipal Compound, Municipality of Magsaysay, Davao del Sur.

The activity was also attended by Municipal Administrator Mr. Vevencio Laganse and Sangguniang Bayan Member and Committee Chairperson on Environment, Hon. Enrique Evangelista.

The IEC campaign was conducted in celebration of the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer. It aimed to raise awareness among local community leaders and educators on the importance of protecting the ozone layer, promoting environmentally responsible practices, and encouraging their active participation in environmental protection and conservation efforts.

The activity also served as a venue to strengthen collaboration among PENRO, the Local Government Unit, barangay officials, and the education sector in promoting environmental awareness and sustainable practices within their respective communities and schools.

Through continuous environmental education and strengthened stakeholder engagement, PENRO remains committed to fostering a culture of environmental responsibility and contributing to the protection and conservation of the environment for present and future generations. ๐ŸŒŽ๐Ÿ’š

September 11, 2026 | The Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) through its Water Quality Management Program conducted a waterbody/coastal clean-up activity at Barangay Baybay, Malalag, Davao del Sur.

This initiative forms part of the continuing implementation of the Water Quality Management Program, which covers identified water sampling stations across the province. This activity aims to help maintain the cleanliness of water bodies and coastal areas, reduce the presence of solid waste, and promote the protection and preservation of water resources.

The clean-up also highlights the importance of collective action and community participation in maintaining healthy waterways and resilient coastal ecosystems. Through continuous monitoring, clean-up activities, and environmental awareness, PENRO remains committed to strengthening efforts toward the protection and sustainable management of the provinceโ€™s water resources.

Today, we gather with grateful hearts to celebrate and honor our OIC-PENRO, Ms. Ivy Rosales, as her time of service as Officer-in-Charge of the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office comes to an end.

Her time with us may have come to a close, but the memories, lessons, and inspiration she has shared with the PENRO family will remain with us.

Maโ€™am Ivy, thank you for leading us with grace, patience, and compassion. Thank you for trusting us, guiding us through challenges, and giving us the encouragement to keep doing our best in the service of our province and our environment.
